Since there are many posts in Switzerland-related subs about how difficult it is to learn Swiss-German: you basically need to know Swiss people to learn the language, but to befriend Swiss people, you need to know the language.
I thought it would be a good idea, to bridge the gap and host a stream as some kind of a "language class". Not sure if a "language class" works in such a setup, but lets give it a try.

Reddit only allows for one poll per post and i don’t want to spam this sub, so if you’re interested, please comment or upvote the combination(Day, Time, Level specified below) which works best for you:

Day

  • Wednesday
  • Thursday

Time

  • 19:00
  • 20:00
  • 21:00

Level

Define a level from 0-5 for German and Swiss-German. So from "no language skills" to "what am I even doing in a language class".

If there are about 30 people interested in such a stream, I’ll pick the suitable/upvoted Date and Level and update this post. Depending on the level of interest(if any) of a specific language level, I’ll split it up into multiple classes/streams.

If you’re able to talk Schwiitzerdütsch like a native and think if this is a good idea, please comment or DM me. Mods or even a Co-host(preferably with another dialect than züridütsch) would be appreciated.

  1. A brazilian co-worker of mine (fellow PhD student) learnt Swiss german (Züridütsch) at UZH with the courses they offer there.

It was quite effective, but he also was very motivated. In the end, he ended up being fluent so we talked mostly in dialect. Funnily enough, he has trouble understanding high german at all as he really only learnt the dialect…
