And the Tories “suddenly” noticed this when they aren’t in power….

I remember Blunkett as Home Secretary lost a court case when he trying to ban people from Pakistan using the fact they were blood relatives as a reason to be allowed in the UK.

Pakistan is a relatively stable country. Asylum claims should be reserved for people fleeing war or civil war. We should be accepting zero claims from Pakistan regardless of how they arrive.

    >Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, said: “Britain’s broken border and visa system is being openly abused….”

You had 14 years, 14 years to fix it. Im all for bashing labour in Government but you expect them to fix it in 14 months.

Pot calling the kettle black springs to mind

  4. Wait until they figure out that there’s a significant underclass who come here on holiday and simply . . . don’t leave.

There’s far more people turning up like that every year than there are “boat people” who **can’t** get a tourist visa, and so rely on the people smugglers to get them here.

  5. So they come over via legal means, then lodge a legal asylum claim? And it’s a grand total of 10,000 people? Who gives a shit?

  6. Countries with more than a tiny proportion of visa overstays or using a tourist visa to claim asylum should no longer be eligible for visas.
