All fisherman do is take. I get why farmers moan all the time. But at least they’re tilling the land all year round.

Fishermen just come up with the nastiest inventions for maximum biomass, for as little effort as possible. They have even been known to flicker their GPSs outside the boundaries of marine protected areas, and simply wait for an oblivious nursery of fish to drift outside that protection.

      Nasty.

Burning grouse moors in National Parks and Landscapes is also legal.  The UK is very fond of toothless designations when it comes to nature.  Part or why the UK is one of the worst places on earth for biodiversity.

Oh that’s the title the editor used, love it when newspapers talk like children

Reading the article it seems like a more appropriate headline would be “Foreign fishing fleets ignore UK MPAs”, but the journalists were in a bind between virtue signalling their eco credentials and their woke neolib internationalist ones.

Tricky dilemma, I feel for them.

    6. Its a true but somewhat misleading title. There are many different designations of Marine Protected Areas each with their own legislation dictating the varying levels of restriction (eg no bottom trawling , all fishing banned entirely etc). As outlined in the article, in the majority of MPAs, fishing and bottom trawling is allowed. There are however, several HMPAs (highly protected marine areas) and No Take Zones, where all fishing is prohibited. There needs to be more campaigning for more HMPAs and NTZs to be designated, as these currently make up a very small percentage of overall area. There’s some progress, but more needs to be done to protect the fisheries and sensitive ecosystems. For more info look at the JNCC or protectedplanet.net
