      Farage is not trump. Trump would fight fire with fire. He would attack everyone. And maga would take their cue and back him.

      That won’t work with Farage. He’s on his own.

      Odd response. It didn’t happen… but also it was 49 years ago… but also he would never racially abuse someone quote *in a hurtful or insulting way* unquote… but also he can’t remember if he said it.

      That’s like four distinct excuses wrapped up in as many sentences. Like Boris Farage has benefited from having a press wing who consistently threw him softballs, but who crumbles under even a modicum of actual pressure or sustained questioning.

      His supporters are responding “we all did back then” which is not true. I’m just a few years younger than Farage and went to a comprehensive in Essex. Racist jokes were common but his comments were directed to hurt individuals. Straight forward out and out racism which was clearly unacceptable even then.

      So the man definitely did throw Nazi salutes at school and then hung with antisemites, joined in antisemitic conspiracy theories, continued courting Musk after he threw Nazi salutes, addressed the AfD….yeah I sense a theme here, and rhymes with acist unt.

      Very peculiar rebuttal. He’s churlish and bratty under scrutiny.

      Also worth reflecting that this would have been 1976 when the generation who participated in and lost friends and family in the war were very much alive and active members of society. Sieg heiling your way around school and glazing Hitler would be viewed as abhorrent now but back then would be utterly reviled given the country and its people still bearing scars left by him.

      Guy allegedly says something racist 49 years ago – must he punished now and forever

      Guy murders someone and is released from jail after serving 12-years only to kill again – the purpose of the system is to rehabilitate, not to punish

      Don’t really understand why he can’t just hold his hands up and say he was a dumb 13 year old and he’s grown up and learned from it.

      Wouldn’t be surprised if more similar things come out that are far more (relatively) recent

      There are allegations of racism against farage in the same way there are allegations that the pope is catholic.

      His supporters will either claim it was teenage stupidity or that it was just banter, at best this might put off those considering Reform as a protest vote. Nothing will stop the Reform faithful backing him, even if he admitted to this being true and that he still agreed with what he said back then. We just need those who plan to vote for him because they are turned off from the major parties what sort of toerag he is.

      This is so weird. Reform was one of the few parties to show il at a Campaign Against Antisemitism March in London this year, together with Con.

      Reform sent one of their most senior members, Conservatives an MP. Government sent no one, despite requests.

      The BBC article on the same subject has this quote

      So if I commit a crime, I can plead not guilty, because I don’t think I did anything bad.

      People who like him won’t see this as a problem. Everyone else already knows he’s a piece of shit. It’d be more of a bombshell if he was caught praying in a mosque.

      Honestly I’d already forgotten about this. I’ve moved on to him potentially being a Russian asset and how a full investigation into the funding and potential bribes afforded to Reform is needed urgently.

      Apparently it was 49 years ago which makes it ok for him so maybe he should explain why he’s been pictured running with the NF in later years. Or all the other stuff since?
