Interesting move for sure. What are your thoughts on this?
I think its interesting because either the government has to admit they stand behind this kind of diplomacy or denounce it and potentially undo progress in the negations. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Government and courts are two different things in Switzerland
Nice!!!
I don’t really see the issue. To me it would have been an issue if it included special treatment only for the companies that were present in the office on that day.
But here it’s quite different, it benefited to every company exporting to US, so it seems more like a diplomatic gift rather than a corruption attempt.
They were well informed that Trump is not insensitive to gifts, and took advantage of it.
Interesting for sure.
May I speculate? I think the Justice Department won’t press charges, but I wonder how they’ll justify it.
“Wasn’t so bad. Let’s not waste time.”?
Just delay delay delay until it’s no longer relevant?
Press very weak charges or ridiculous, unprovable ones so it gets thrown out in court?
Some weird argument why bribing the US president is actually okay? Without insulting the Americans by bunching them up with a couple of African despots?
I really wonder.
Einfach zur Info: Nach Gesetz darf er die Geschenke nicht behalten (ausser: das Parliament bewilligt dies explizit). Das sind letztlich Geschenke ans Amt und sind anschliessend Eigentüm der Regierung.
Ok, Trump. Nicht unmöglich, dass er sie einfach mitnimmt. Wäre aber nicht legal.
It’s such a clear display of corruption I don’t understand why this is even up for discussion.
There is a thin grey area between traditional gift giving as a sign of apprecitaion and tradition. Bringing e.g. traditional clothing or food etc is on this side of the line. However, some companies have strict ethical rules if the supplier can bring gifts (and to what value maximum) or that gift has to be declared and shared.
At one point a little gift becomes bribery. Bringing this amount of value to such an openly and proudly corrupt “president” is so much over the line that the line isn’t even visible anymore.
At least be honest, you bribed the potus.
“Any person who gives a member of an authority who is acting for a foreign state an undue advantage in order that the person carries out an act in connection with their official activities which is dependent on their discretion, shall be liable to a custodial sentence not exceeding five years or to a monetary penalty.”
It will be interesting to hear the arguments, why article 322 septies should not be applicable. However, the Attorney General might just quietly accept the case and put it at the bottom of a big pile of other cases to be investigated in due time.

I think they should all go to jail and then be remigrated if possible. I don’t want this criminals in my country
It’s laughable that they’re getting upset about corruption in Switzerland when you see all that goes on here.
ah yes the greens, let’s waste the court time with 110k CHF of private money while they want to send 20mio of tax payer money to the terrorist of gaza
