My grandpa lived (and continues to live) and worked in Jastrzębie-Zdrój his whole life. After his shifts in the mine, he sculpted in coal and graphite — a type of industrial folk art that used to be common in Silesian mining towns but is now almost completely gone.

He lost two fingers while working on his sculptures, and after a stroke he isn’t able to create anymore. When I looked him up recently, I found almost nothing about him online, which made me want to share his work somewhere it can be seen and appreciated.

These panels and sculptures were shown at his 2011 exhibition in Jastrzębie, and several of his Stations of the Cross still hang in the local church. I thought some people here might appreciate seeing the tradition preserved.

Thank you for having a look. One day I hope to do an exhibition maybe at a polish cultural centre and donate proceeds to charity benefiting miners.

    1. Amazing. I was raised in this town! Never heard of this sculptor but it all certainly looks beautiful.
