So 13th AHV over VAT and now this also? What‘s next?

We just climb VAT by 1% every year until infinity?

Get fucked military, we don‘t need that much of it.

  2. Aren’t Mehrwertsteuern one of the most regressive taxes because they affect poor people the most?

Maybe we could instead use taxes that are more progressive and affect the people who can afford them?

  3. I guess this would be a good start. Like they say, this needs serious investment. 50+ billion at least. Not something that can be done with a little tweaking.

We used to have 577 artillery pieces. We have 120 or so left and are replacing them with 32! A little over 5% of the original capacity and just good one air strike away from losing a third of our firepower. Its absolutely ridiculous. We should be buying at least 10x of that number.

And its the same in every category. We have 3 airfields, used to have about 15. No more redundancy. We used to have Flugzeugkavernen (hangars inside mountains to protect our jets against air strikes) but never expanded them to fit FA18s and i assume F-35s also dont fit.

We used to have hundreds of fighter jets. Now we have 30. And like 150 air to air missiles for them. Maybe a week’s worth of ammo if we had to fight a full blown invasion, like ukraine.

We are buying 36 new jets (which only work if donald trump happens to like us on that day). A quantity that was deemed to be the minimum in peace time (before the ukraine invasion or america turning fascist). So we should cancel the F-35 anyway. But regardless we should be buying 100 or so other jets from europe or south korea.

So yeah this needs to be financed somehow and it won’t work with a little bit of saving here and there. Especially after we also just decided to spend a whole defense budget worth of money every year on the 13th AHV, so a handful of old people who are lacking precisely 2000 bucks a year don’t have to go thru the inconvenience of having to fill in a bit of extra paperwork…

  4. Ah yes, more money for our beautiful army 😍

A small sacrifice from the population for an immediate and tangible improvement on our daily lives.

Preventing future conflicts with initiatives to stabilize unstable countries and re-inforce our neutrality in times of peace? F**k that. We need more weapons and less NGOs.

Let’s keep bowing to the US and buy their weapons too, they know how to keep peace around the world. Same with Israel and their peace-loving army from which we keep throwing money for those damn drones since 2015.

All those scandals around fraud related to the Ministry of Defense this year? All good, water under the bridge 🙂

  5. I mean, the centre are the kind of squad where lack of imagination is a given, but I’m afraid Dettling is in the right about this one.

Just because VAT increase is the most intuitive and looks best from far away doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily good fiscal policy
