Seeing him breakdown crying at the end set me over the edge, not even a Noria fan!

Absolutely buzzing for him. Stuck with McLaren through highs and lows and got the title in the end.
Do feel for Oscar. He’s definitely got it in him and his time will come.

Very happy for them and I really feel he earnt it in these last three or four races.
But a proper British sportsman, he never makes it easy to watch, bottled half his starts, bless him.

Fair play young man! Very emotional- well deserved and stopped Max from 5!

Great win from Norris. He’s battled hard the entire season.
It’s wonderful to see a man that is so open with their emotions – often times seen as a weakness – reach the top of their sport.
The way he handled that frankly disgraceful move from Red Bull and Tsunoda to try and force him off track was brilliant too. Stayed cool and still pulled off the move.
I’m not particularly patriotic, or a Lando fan, but a small part of me is ecstatic that we have a British team and a British driver at #1 in Formula 1 again.

Didnt really deserve it. But hey, roll on new regs next year.

The internet is a vile place and some of the comments I’ve seen about this are shocking…
From me I couldn’t be happier. Well done Lando. A deserving champion!

Good on him for stopping Max winning the title again. McLaren started to see the wheels fall off after the Dutch Grand Prix but they held off Verstappen’s charge at least. They certainly provided a lot of entertainment this season and Norris has his name in the history books, which is all that matters. I hope that he and Piastri can provide something similar next season.

Buzzing for him.
Bit of a dull race in the end but lando done exactly what he needed to do
Impossible_Gas_7584 on
Richly deserved (as it would have been for he, oscar, or max).
He’s shown his composure and speed the second half of the season. Nailed it.
Lando’s move on tsunoda today was pretty brave and had my heart in my mouth.

I remember in an office conversation in 2018, talking to a colleague about this new driver who had the potential to be a champion one day.
That driver was Lando. So, to see it come full circle finally after a rough journey is good to see. All three in contention had a rollercoaster of a season.
Bright_Eyes4429 on
He was extremely consistent throughout the season and deserved it. McLaren made a meal of it at times with strategy and set up – verstappen should not have been so close at the end – but lando got the most out of car at almost every weekend

I’ve never liked him and have been backing Piastri all season, but can’t say he is undeserving. Hope next year gives us better racing though and see other teams fighting for the title.

Congratulations to Lando. But I hope the racing improves next year. Some of the races this year have put me to sleep. This generation of F1 cars have kind of sucked.

He was the only one of the top three to have a mechanical DNF in the season and still came back to win it. I don’t agree with anyone saying it’s not deserved

Well done Lando, well deserved.
Looking forward to next year, brand new regs and brand new car designs. Should be interesting.

Well managed season from Lando, and well done to him.
Oscar is a future world champion, if he gets a decent car under him.
It **does** understand just how fucking good Max is though, to be 2 points behind in a worse car.

Stressful season as someone that’s backed him since F2
Final race was a bit tense at a few points, but he never looked particularly in danger of dropping off the podium. Ultimately a great effort by Max to take it down to the wire, but also Lando would have closed it out weeks ago without an engine DNF and a floor DSQ costing him 36pts.
For all the talk about Lando being a serial bottler, he won this championship by consistently finishing second when he didn’t win, whereas the other two were regularly off the podium

So happy to see a 🇬🇧 driver on top after so long. He drove an immense season.
And fair play to McLaren for doing it the right way! No attempting to drive their opponents off track, no cost-cap breaches and no human errors required (2021, anyone?).
Well done to everyone in Woking who pulled this off 👏🏾.

I gave up watching F1 this season because it’s just been so dull to watch, tuned in for the decider. Still interminable. I was spoilt by 2021.

Seeing rich kids beat other rich kids does nothing for me. At the end of the day, when the pool of people who can even attempt to get into the sport is 0.01% to 0.1% of the world’s population, you’re only the best out of a tiny pool of people privileged enough to get that far. If the other 99.9% could compete, then statistically there would probably be better drivers among them, but we can never know. But to me, that eliminates a lot of the merit. It still takes skill and talent, but that only becomes a factor when you’re already through the door. The whole ‘world’s best’ title is a bit hollow. It’s like winning a competition among students at your local secondary school and claiming to be the best in the world, even though no one else was able to enter.
– Norris’s father is extremely wealthy from financial services and poured money into enabling him to get into the industry.
– Leclerc was born in Monaco, father was a racing driver
– Magnussen’s father was a professional driver
– Verstappen’s father was an F1 driver
– Piastri’s father founded a company in automotive data and poured money into getting him into the industry
– Carlos Sainz Jr’s father was a two time world rally champion
– Stroll’s father is a billionaire
– Logan Sargeant’s father is extremely wealthy too
– Hulkenberg’s father owned a logistics company.
Basically all of them have fathers who poured money into their careers or exploited connections to get them into F1.
There are a few less wealthy competitors. For example, Alonso achieved success without money or connections. But even so, his father worked at a kart factory and built him one by hand. So it clearly takes pretty extreme circumstances. And Lewis Hamilton was really just middle class, but again, his Dad worked multiple jobs to push him through and did all the maintenance, repairs, and transport himself.
There’s this narrative of meritocracy which simply isn’t deserved. And if it’s not a meritocracy, these people shouldn’t be endorsing products or influencing young people or acting like athletes. A footballer can tell kids ‘if you’re good enough and determined enough, you can get where I am’. An F1 driver can’t.
