  1. The NHS has issued an urgent nationwide ‘stay at home’ warning as winter bugs, including the H3N2 strain, are rapidly spreading throughout the UK. In a recent X post, the health service also advised people to ‘cover your nose and mouth’ and to ‘avoid contact with other people’.

The flu season has arrived earlier and with greater severity this year. According to the latest UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) weekly report, influenza activity has risen and is now circulating at medium levels.

This is why I am avoiding the pub.

I first got covid there because two idiots who KNEW they had covid still went out for beers.

  3. The fact that “cover your mouth and nose” is being put out there as a warning and not just the bare fucking minimum.

People are disgusting. You should always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, fuckin scruffs.

I was at a Jim Jeffries gig a few weeks ago and some cunt behind me was not only rude enough to consistently talk through the performance, but fucking bare ass **sneezed** on the back of my head two or three times. Low and behold, I had flu a few days later.

The chickens have come home to roost!

The concern with this specific H3N2 variant is that it has mutated in a way that makes it both more severe and potentially less responsive to immunity from previous infections or vaccinations, though the current flu jab is still recommended as it offers some protection against severe illness.

  6. I think I had this in November. It was worse than covid. At least that was only a week. With this thing going around, it took me like two weeks before I was able to leave the house. I was so exhausted that even then, my fitbit recorded my heartrate spike to 158bpm just walking up a slight hill. It took another week before my chest cleared up, too.

    Get your jabs.

Headline is misleading. The article says cover your mouth and stay home if you have flu. Obviously.

Wonder how many will be stupid enough to call for countrywide lockdowns and stand at their doors clapping this time

If you get flu, you can order antivirals online if you pay £20 from pharmacy 2u. Anyone can do this.

  10. If i stay home i expect furlough. Otherwise i got bills that dont pay themselves and a few less boomers and pensioners wouldnt hurt my generations economic outlook either. Ya, heartless but what have they done for us other than be heartless?

  11. It’s genuinely baffling that basic hygiene needs to be a public health reminder for some adults. I’ve started avoiding crowded indoor spaces for the same reason, as you just can’t trust people to do the decent thing when they’re ill. The entitlement of going out while knowingly sick is just staggering. Honestly, staying home when you’re unwell should be the absolute baseline of decency.

People who don’t cover their mouths when they cough evoke a special kind of ire in me. You too will grow old and frail, and be harder hit one day by what you could have shrugged off when you were younger. It is such basic manners and decency that it’s fundamentally illustrative of someone’s character to go around in public spraying others with their shite.

  13. I’m a fitness instructor – even though we tell people not to, they constantly come to classes with colds, etc. because they don’t want to miss their class, or think it will help them get over it. I came down with something recently, which I’m pretty sure was the result of someone ill coming to a class. I ended up cancelling all my classes for the week, so not only did a large number of people miss their class, I didn’t earn any money, what with being self-employed, so no sick pay, either.

I was really hoping that after lockdowns, people would have more consideration, but nope, not in the slightest.

  14. Since I’m immocompromised, so I still mask up on public transit and other places like the doctor’s office. Once a month I go to a hospital for treatment and mask up there too, the number of people looking at me like I’m crazy is wild.

Went to A&E two week ago and there was a sign telling people to mask up and ⅔ of people ignored it.
