Not a real story but it helps to keep the Brexit failure in the news.

it’s no more significant than some students doing the same.

Good, there needs to be adult conversations on Brexit and even if this didn’t mean much on the surface it might get the ball rolling. It is not the time to be isolationist, now more than ever.

Fitting…most people didn’t know what they were voting on the first time
Where the decision is a substantive one (to make an amendment to the law, permit something or block something) the Speaker will always vote for the “no change” option in a tie because no genuine majority exists in the Commons. Where a decision is to have further time for debate / another occasion for debate, the Speaker votes in favour in a tie, because the tie will never be properly resolved if the matter is closed.

I like Caroline Nokes. That very rare item, a sane, smart Tory…
Is it any wonder she’s never given any oxygen by the Tory press…?

Am I just being stupid for not being able to work out what the “accidentally” is supposed to refer to here?
The MPs who voted for it purposefully voted for it, those who voted against it purposefully voted against it, and those who abstained purposefully abstained. Everyone also voted knowing it’s a ten-minute rule’ motion and isn’t going to actually change the law. There doesn’t seem to be any indication anyone fucked up their vote

The Deputy Speaker simply voted [in the conventional way ](https://erskinemay.parliament.uk/section/4830/principles-on-which-speaker-gives-casting-vote)to resolve a tie.
