  1. The bill involved here is already a complete shitshow of government overreach. The more eyes on it to get it stopped, the better.

  2. So now in order to connect to my work PC i’ll need to give some random 3rd party chosen by the government my ID

    Yeah fuck off

  3. They’ll do that, and that won’t work, so next they’ll say a ban on computers for kids.

Basically we’re going to become Amish where you don’t see any modern technology until you’re an adult.

What’s got them so riled up that they’ve decided to try and force massively unpopular censorship on the network? It’s obvious that somewhere behind the scenes there has been an international agreement to restrict what citizens are allowed to read and ensure anyone expressing views the various states disapprove of can be quickly and easily detained. The coordinated introduction of parallel legal structures across what used to call itself “the free world” is a dead giveaway.

The question is why? The last time we saw an expansion of surveillance powers they’d been caught on the hop by Islamist militants.

  7. >In another proposed amendment, Peers have suggested that: “Any relevant device supplied for use in the UK must have installed tamper-proof system software which is highly effective at preventing the recording, transmitting… and viewing of CSAM using that device.”

They’re proposing banning Linux too, no way that could be GPL compliant

Serious question, do the lords and MPs not use VPNs?

I’m seriously concerned if they don’t. VPNs are essentially mandatory for my company to ensure cybersecurity safety and if our political representatives aren’t even using VPNs then they’re probably getting hacked and don’t know it yet.

State vindictiveness at its worst. The first principle of every recent government is always “Under no circumstances must ordinary citizens ever be able make a mockery of legislation, even if it’s terrible legislation that’s completely unworkable and doesn’t solve the issue it was introduced to solve”. They double down and double down and double down until every avenue for dissent and civil disobedience has been choked off and if doing that grants the state even greater powers of surveillance and control, so much the better.

Sky sports will be happy but nobody will watch the programming/propaganda, anymore, well not for free and in such large numbers.

  11. Won’t take long now before it’s a ban on adults too – because that’ll *protect the children* even more.

A bunch of non elects putting forth proposals that have an everlasting impact on our country.

    Ridiculous

  13. They are creating new problems to resolve something that wasn’t a problem in the first place, while there are more critical matters they should resolve.

    Sounds about right!

  14. Omg of all the things going wrong in our country and they put all this time and energy into stopping us having a wank wow
