Don’t worry, when Farageski and the rest of the Russians invade we won’t have to work!

I’d expect it to stabilise in the short term around the 5% level, but not recover for at least a year. That NI hike on employers was incredibly damaging for such little gain…

Yet we’ll continue bringing in migrants to do jobs because businesses don’t want to pay higher wages.
The way it’s supposed to work is that if you can’t find someone to do a job at the wage advertised you have to increase the wage. Now businesses just hire some third world migrant to do the job instead because they’ll work for low wages.

Don’t worry guys. Margaret Starmer and his assistant Rachel from Accounts has this covered, we just need to give them more time

The problem isn’t unqualified people, the problem is the companies wanting to cut costs and maintain their desired profitability.

I’ve been applying to so many jobs and barely heard back. It’s so bleak rn

Who’d have thought increasing employer NI and raising minimum wage would increase unemployment? Colour me surprised.

To the surprise of noone, while national insurance hike is partly to blame other key drivers such as AIremoving entry level jobs and America waving their dick around effecting market confidence also plays a part

Unsurprising. Unemployment rises under every Labour government.

5% unemployment is generally considered as “full employment”. i.e. the only people out of work are there because they are transititioning between roles or not looking for work right now. So 5% is an incredible number and employment situation in the UK looks great. Also unemployment at this level should have a positive effect on pay levels as employers will need to pay more to find workers. We’re seeing wages increase faster than inflation over the last few years so this also tracks.

I’m sure this won’t get hyperbolised and blamed on labour for no reason /s

Just wait till the NHS England, ICB and CSU severances kick in at the start of next tax year…

5% is generally targeted as a ‘good’ level of unemployment.
What does reddit think it should be?

I can’t get another job and my current work is treating us like crap. They’re telling us to rush as they know we can’t get another job. I’m on £40K a year so it’s not like I can just quit and get any job. Well I mean I can but I’d be on minimum wage.

I remember when I studied economics a large contributor to its health is how good people *think* things are. The media have a huge amount to answer for as you’d think there were mass unemployment and starvation with their current doom and gloom atmosphere.
FYI It was 5.4%+ in 2015 and everything was fine then. I wonder is who was in power then.

But yet we keep outsourcing jobs to Asia. Improving their economies. I’ve made a post on this recently.

It’s pathetic the state the job market is in.
