Aww that’s one of the go-to arguments for the Tory Remainer cult as to why Brexit is bad, outside of blaming problems the Tories created on Brexit.
They’ll be all out of debating points soon!

Good news. We should be challenging the Brexiteers on their Brexit dogma.
We should also be reversing Boris’s betrayal. He insisted Erasmus wouldn’t be scrapped, then 9 months later scrapped it, complaining about “value for money”! Also Suella Braverman was against the scheme despite having had been an Erasmus student herself.
People will complain about various things like “But what about our youth unemployed?” And “This doesn’t benefit us”, which are all deeply short-sighted perspectives.
Firstly, I didn’t see any of these people caring about the unemployed youth when rejoining Erasmus wasn’t being discussed. So, it seems like faux outrage there.
Secondly, not all benefits have to be immediately quantifiable. It is a “soft power”, socio-cultural benefit to have EU students coming here to study. Making networks, friendships, relationships and increasing European understanding. Spending on our high streets, etc. All good stuff.
Thirdly, Erasmus offers opportunities that increase a student’s chances of employment in future. It enhances CVs.

The question here is how much they extorted out of us for it. It was not good value for money originally, which is why we left it and set up Turing instead.
There’s nothing wrong with Erasmus per se (an exchange year doesn’t have a meaningful addition to labour oversupply), but it definitely benefitted them more than us when we were in it before, and I’d expect that to be true again. And if this costs us several hundred million pounds a year for the privilege of hosting EU students in the UK, it’s not a good deal. Especially if they get their year in Scotland free when that’s not available to home students.

As one of the last Erasmus students that was able to go. This is massively good thing. best year of my life, for someone that grew up in a shitty council eastate, to be able to travel, make mates from around the world, and learn.
