I was on the farmer’s side until i read the article and apparently after the first incident (the guy was lucky to survive) she moved move cattle to same field when she had other enclosed fields available

This is just “i want to remove the public rights of way from my lands” action

  2. I am in favour of public rights of way but there are too many piss takers these days. People who litter, let their animals run everywhere etc.

  3. This can’t be right. I thought farmers were upstanding members of our society and not entitled assholes /s

The dog managed to escape uninjured. Man’s best friend and all that. Was the dogs name, Jack?
    Poor.

No other industry would get away with having something as dangerous as a cow on a public right of way

  6. Some farmers are far more sensible about this. I was on a walk last year and came across one PROW path that a local farmer had put up signs explaining that the cows may be aggressive, and had drawn out a map showing a safe detour to take. Totally reasonable way to do it.

Some just don’t want PROW to exist and are happy to make it as difficult as possible

Farmers: I don’t want any public access to my land

Also Farmers: I don’t want to pay any tax.

They’re not just walkers, they are dog walkers. It’s an important distinction. Anybody who has grown up in the countryside knows not to enter a field with cows and calves with your dog. The farmer should have had signs up warning the public and provided an alternative route while that field was being grazed.

  9. It’s one thing to have a single incident, but repeatedly putting dangerous cattle on a public footpath shows a reckless disregard for public safety.

Disgusting. The idea that people should be expected to do “thinking” and be aware of “danger” in this day and age is ludicrous….

  11. DO NOT approach cows with calves with a dog, especially on a leash. Cows see dogs as a threat to calves. If the dog is off leash it will, usually sensibly, run away. On a leash you and the dog are a team. Cows probably kill more humans than any other large animal. And most attacks involve dogs.

I, personally, don’t consider it reasonable to expect farmers not to graze land because there’s a right of way.

  12. If you want to get killed, just walk your dog through a field with cows. Young ones especially will chase the dog. The responsibility should be on the person with the dog to know and understand this.

  13. A farmer has been fined after a spate of cow attacks on walkers in Cornwall, which saw one man spend five days in hospital with multiple serious injuries.

Brian Gregory, 75, had been on a caravanning holiday at Porthcothan in June 2024 when he embarked on a dog walk with his labrador Molly along the West Coast Path.

He was attacked by a herd of cows with calves, and was trampled and butted while his dog was able to escape uninjured.

Poor man… I hope that injured man will recover from serious injuries…
    Wishing his speedy recovery!
