we found a pigeon with an injured wing today and don’t know where to bring him. recently moved to basel and i don’t know any vets or stations here, and the ones that i found by googling are either closed or don’t take pigeons.

also what can i do to make it more comfortable for him? we put him in a carton with a blanket and gave him a lid filled with water

  1. Pigeons (at least the one you pictured) are not very popular and are more of a pest than anything else.

It‘s commendable that you care, but quite frankly you‘ll have difficulty finding someone who is willing to spend time and money on a pigeon.

Also beware, pigeons are very homey. If a pigeon decides the place where you live is it‘s home, you can‘t ever get rid of it again. They ALWAYS find a way back. For generations.

Schutz & Rettung Zürich (Einsatzleitzentrale) call them, they help with injured or abandoned animals.

  3. Pigeon droppings can carry the Salmonella bacteria (which causes salmonellosis), transmitting the infection to humans through contaminated food or surfaces, or by inhaling dust containing the germs, causing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. They can also transmit fungi and other pathogens.

Here a few info for first aid:
_Seit dem 1. Februar 2025 dürfen Tierärzte und Tierärztinnen in der Schweiz auch Wildtiere ohne Bewilligung behandeln, sofern sie anschliessend einer Pflegestation übergeben, am Fundort wieder freigelassen oder euthanasiert werden (revidierte Jagdverordnung)._

Hi OP, thank you for helping this pidgeon!!!

Try the „Pflegestellen“/contacts under this ok n link: https://stadttauben.ch/rat-und-tat/ or the Vogelwarte as someone else mentioned – if you can’t reach any try a vet – since February 2025 they are also allowed to treat wild animals as long as they are afterwards handed to a rescue/Pflegestelle if I understood correctly
