About 15 years too late. This would have been cool about 1 or max 2 years after the last space shuttle. Now it’s just too little too late to be interesting. 1960’s style capsule on a ‘shuttle heritage’ rocket for billions and billions… Just stop it already.

It boggles my mind they couldn’t accomplish this as a straight continuation of Shuttle. Utterly idiotic this took 15 years.

Fucking finally. I mean there will be nothing following this but still. It’s been a long time since we send people that close to the moon.

  3. It’s a much more sophisticated capsule than Apollo, and larger, flying a higher-energy trajectory with panels instead of fuel cells, Nitrox atmosphere, and designed for longer periods in space.

What’s now needed is a lander that’s ready to go.

  4. It’s fine. This rocket will launch once and the all future is space travel will be done by starship for at least the next decade

  5. I am not educated in launch time line but why are they rolling it out few weeks before launch? Isn’t it going to be affected by weather and environmental elements?

  6. I wish I could get down there to see the launch, hopefully there will be many more in the future.

  7. A Senate launch system. Rocket without a good reason to exist, with an capsule that doesn’t have a reason to exist. A culminating of 20 year of bad, political motivated decisions.

  8. A skyscraper filled with fuel that we set on fire to reach the stars, amazing when you think about it.

The human thirst for excellence, knowledge; every step up the ladder of science; every adventurous reach into space; all of our combined modern technologies and imaginations; even the wars that we’ve fought have provided us the tools to wage this terrible battle.

Through all of the chaos that is our history; through all of the wrongs and the discord; through all of the pain and suffering; through all of our times, there is one thing that has nourished our souls, and elevated our species above its origins, and that is our courage. The dreams of an entire planet are focused tonight on those fourteen brave souls traveling into the heavens. And may we all, citizens the world over, see these events through.
God speed, and good luck to you.

I always find this quote from Armageddon inspiring when I see we travel into space.

I need to go touch grass, I thought this was an Arc Raiders Spaceport post.

    Good luck, Artemis!

Someone said: “hey, you still got a Saturn rocket, and a solid rocket booster? Seriously? Can we… you know?”.

And someone else said: screw it. Trumps gunna fire us anyway.

It’s going to blow up in spectacular fashion. This will kill the space program and all of it’s momentum. This is the justification needed to cut more funding and funnel it elsewhere. This will beg the question, Do we really need to go back to the moon at this cost? America doesn’t like watching it’s astronauts die because of external pressure and coercion.

  14. Godspeed Artemis 2! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸, I’m so excited for these new moon missions!

  15. Slightly off-topic does anyone have a good video to talk about the entire Artemis II mission?

  16. Fun fact, in this picture… the mobile launcher platform ALONE , costs 1/3 of the entire Starship development program so far. Do not ask me how, no one knows how or why did it cost that much

  17. Capn_Chryssalid on

Its a nice rocket… but also pretty last-century, and so so so expensive. I guess it will be the last of its kind (along with some versions of Long March)… like a dinosaur seen in the wild.

  18. hondashadowguy2000 on

I can only imagine the sense of scale you’d get when seeing this in person. Unfortunately I live nowhere near this stuff

  19. I can literally see all my tax money getting wasted from here on that overpriced, underperforming corporate handout. Wish I could steal stuff from museums and charge ten figures.

  20. Finally!!! It’s been a long time since we’ve had one that is not SpaceX or another private company…. I’m hoping it’s not a one off to please the public

  21. MarlinMaverick on

I didn’t even know NASA was still making rockets, I assumed Elon ran the entire show
