Everybody in this thread cheering this is clueless that Christianity is the basis of their morals and the origin of every progressive idea and value they likely hold

I’ve always thought that the number of reported theists in the US is too high. Many people go to church and say they believe when they do not. They want to keep their spouse or parents happy and not make any waves.

Good, get religion out of the administration.

Systems for controlling the masses have improved dramatically over the last few decades. Christianity is the horse and buggy of mass manipulation now.

I will get a lot of hate but I think long-term this is a bad thing. I say this as an atheist, who has never been religious, but has had lots of experience with religious people.
I don’t need to explain that religion is far from perfect, but for a lot of people religion serves as a community and support system when they otherwise have none. With the ongoing “loneliness epidemic” people need community more than ever before.
Religion also provides a sense of greater purpose and spiritual fulfillment that most people struggle to independently create for themselves. It’s no secret that the struggle to finding meaning in life has basically become endemic, especially among young people.
Many non-religious people replace faith with materialism and seek fulfillment through making money and buying things, which isn’t a healthy way to live.

I wish they studied gender-specific trends and projections as well. I suspect that the widening gender gap in young people, with men tacking far to the right, includes an uptick in religious affiliation. At least, the popular right wing influencers seem to keep harping on Christian values and “traditional” families that appeal to men disgruntled with equality.

On the other hand, they’ll likely continue to be grossly overrepresented in every branch of government.

I would be very curious to know how much of this is driven directly by the Catholic Church’s own tightening up following the mass cover up of sexual abuse among clergy.
I know there have been little oppressions of parishioners through this that have driven a wedge between the people and the church. My wife’s late grandmother, a devout woman well into her 90s, stopped going to her longtime church after they cut the worship band which was nothing more than a couple of guitarists and a keyboard and vocalists, all in the name of traditionalism.
My best friend, same age as me, highly religious, used to tithe 10% of his considerable earnings. During COVID, he and his family masked up for services because he and his infant daughter both had respiratory issues and were considered at high risk of severe disease if they contracted coronavirus. His church refused to enforce restrictions on parishioners, and he stopped going. He was kicked out of his worship band, and they ended up changing churches. He told me recently his faith has been shaken by some of the things he’s seen his fellow “Christians” say.

If we recognize that many (majority?) of the people in the US who say they are Christians are actually anything but, then the US may already be at less than half practicing Christians.

I think a HUGE portion of younger Americans are culturally Christian, but actually just non-religious in practice.
Like they’ll have their kids baptized and go to church on Easter, but they certainly wouldn’t miss a football game to go to church.

With Netanyahu owning Trump, it literally doesn’t matter. We’re gonna have the same abortion laws as Israel and Britain. We’re gonna keep getting into pointless wars. We’re gonna keep enforcing Judeo-Christian morality.
