Britain must declare independence from America or it will die – Trump is not a deviation from his predecessors. He is merely following the tradition of liberalism

I must have missed the memo on American capital โ€œmaking us all richโ€.

    2. This is the most insane take i have ever heard, and it confirms my suspicions that nobody on planet earth seems to know what liberalism even is anymore.
      Remember, folks…
Liberalism is the government has to follow its own laws, liberalism is that people have rights, liberalism is that the will of the people matters… none of that is donald trump, he is a fascist and the mask is fully off.

    3. trump may be doing a lot of strange things – but following the thread of liberalism is definitely not one of them

I’m NUMBER ONE and only radical left lunatics actually believe that not bowing down to NUMBER ONE is in their best interest.
Thank you for you attention to this matter.

      DONALD J. TRUMP

Any opinion comment from the Daily Telegraph should be considered in the following way – if they say it the right answer is the exact opposite.

    6. Realy, what is the point of the telegraph at this point apart from spreading BS. Just think, at some point it was a respected newspaper.

Riiight, he’s putting tariffs up against the entire world while we just signed a trade agreement with south America, but he’s the one following the “tradition of liberalism”…

Liberalism?…..really?…….We all know what it’s called and it’s not the bullshit you’re article’s title insinuates.

That awkward moment when your newspaper is so reactionary and Tory-pilled that you see Trump as being too liberal.

    10. Britain will never. They vilified Europe, branded it as the enemy of everything they hold dear, then came begging to the US once they realized that Brexit was a disaster.

They have nothing left. Their ties with the US is the last shot they have at perceived relevance. If they sever those ties, they’re all alone: a declining former global superpower isolated in the North Sea.

The only way out is to seek ties with the EU again, but the British will always be too prideful to do that in earnest.

    11. Since when was the UK officially part of the US that we need to “declare independence”?

Imagine genuinely trying to blame illiberal actions on liberalism… What moron wrote this?

    13. Trump is a Puppet nothing more nothing less, Just need to figure out who is pulling the strings!!

    14. Yeah Trump and John Locke are basically the same person ๐Ÿ™„

What kind of a illiterate take is this? Absurdity!

    15. I couldn’t finish reading the article. It was rambling and incoherent, but I agree with the byline.

    16. Liberalism? You mean corporatism, right? Nixon and Reagan kicked it off, so I agree it’s not new. Trump isn’t some outlier, Republicans have been leaning fascist for decades.

    17. Believe it or not, the USA used to be respected, and the Telegraph used to be a serious, well-regarded newspaper.

      Both have gone completely insane.

    18. I didnโ€™t know Fascism was considered liberal these daysโ€ฆ.

I mean, I guess by the standards of the Telegraph, anything left of a military junta with death camps is considered โ€œleft.โ€

    19. Scapegoating liberalism while framing it as an unchanging tradition? *checks source* oh, it’s the Torygraph. Business as usual.

    20. Hopefully Europe is just buying time to disentangle and push back with penalties of their own.

    21. ExecutiveAvenger on

I don’t know, maybe the United Kingdom should seek security, mutual cooperation and leverage from some pan-European organization? Oh, wait…

    22. Im not really sure how Trump exemplifies the tradition of liberalism, or even neo-liberalism. He is quite literally the candidate elected as a โ€˜fuck youโ€™ to the established order which has been decades of Democratic and Republican Neo-liberals.
