It’s interesting how the Daily Mail seem to have completely missed the fact about Sunak skipping out on the D-Day event. I wonder why.

He’s demonstrated that:
1. Conservative advisors (who plan days and weeks of activities) are clueless incompetents
2. Conservative party is more concerned about what the media class think (must get to that interview) than what the people think
3. During an election period, winning an election is more important than running the country – worlds leaders were there to discuss various issues, he left, snubbing them, while Keir Starmer stayed and chatted
4. In his explanation/apology he included the line – ‘lets not make D-Day about politics’ – having left D-Day service to do electioneering
This is not about whether its rude to leave a D-Day service and disrespect veterans (both of those things being obviously true) this is about an absolute shambles of leadership, management, corrupted morals, priorities and incoherent picture of whats right and wrong.

It’s like something from The Thick of It. How incompetent can you get?

Mr Sunak will shortly announce a pledge to extend a stamp duty cut for first home buyers.
He will also pledge to defend against a “war on drivers”.

I’m uneasy about saying this because it’s bait for racists. But it’s something I’ve been thinking about.
I wonder if he misunderstood the importance of the D Day Commemoration because he doesn’t have any family that fought in the war.
I just find it so bizarre that he’s make this mistake. There’s a reason he misjudged this so badly. This is one reason I can think of that doesn’t require a conspiracy to actually lose the election on purpose.

I still don’t really get why he would do this. I mean, so far, his campaign looked like a damage limitation exercise – mostly around shoring up support among his core voters – “We’re gonna lose, but lets make sure we don’t lose too badly”. Then, for reasons unknown, he decides to take a piss on his core demographic. Fair enough, he’s an out-of-touch guy, but I still cannot believe that his judgement is *this* bad.
