Try to imagine what those 1000 soldiers are thinking now. Soon they could face a moment that will change the face of the world forever. Let’s hope this won’t happen but I don’t think Trump is capable of backing down.
Many people have no clue about Arctic warfare and the special requirements under those harsh conditions. The environment is so brutal that many traditional tactics and approaches simply don’t work.
The Nordic NATO member states in particular have a considerable number of highly specialized forces that are trained to be effective in those conditions. So contrary to popular belief, it won’t be a walk in the park for the US to take the island by force, especially if Denmark is joined by their NATO allies in increasing the military presence there.

This is so sad. While I am happy that Denmark is not backning down. I just can’t imagine Europeans engaging American troops in a possible near future. In a conflict where America is trying to achieve goals that it has already achieved. They are free to invest i minerals in Greenland. They are free to deploy more troops to Greenland. Now they seem to be hell bent on invading Greenland to achieve this? This is madness. The ammount of lives that would be lost for something so pointless is awful.
I hope all of the EU and Nato stands with Denmark and sends more troops if they request it and I hope the Institutions in America finally puts an end to this.

One thing us Americans need to start doing is letting our brothers and sisters in the armed forces know they will not be welcome home if they participate in the invasion of any (formerly)allied/NATO country. They will be treated far worse than the worst Vietnam vets got.
Can I just say that no major news org is running this 1,000 troops number, so I would be very careful with such assumptions. 100 additional troops is what is being reported.
Now personally, I would love for them to send a bunch. Europe should fight for its territory if the worst case comes. Let the USA show its true face

Can someone explain like I’m 5 what the tactical objectives of Greenland would be? Obviously they have a capital city and some ports but beyond that what would the U.S even strike?

In case you missed it, Trump activated a 1400 man strong military unit within Alaska yesterday that specializes in winter and Arctic warfare. His justification for putting them on standby and training readiness was to potentially deploy them to…Minnesota. But it’s very much a ruse to get them ready for Greenland.
The U.S. is actively building plans to take over Greenland and this must be taken seriously and it appears Denmark also picked up on this and will be deploying an equivalent force to fight a war.
