The Prime Minister’s Office confirms that they are saying no to Donald Trump’s so-called "peace council".

– The American proposal raises a number of questions that require further dialogue with the United States. Norway will therefore not join the setup for the Board of Peace and will therefore not participate in a signing ceremony in Davos, writes Kristoffer Thoner at the Prime Minister’s Office in an email to NTB.

He further writes that it is crucial for Norway how the proposal relates to established structures, such as the UN.

– We have also emphasized that Norway shares President Trump’s goal of lasting peace in Ukraine and Gaza. Norway will continue our close cooperation with the United States and other partners for peace, writes Thoner.

France threatened with wine tariffs

France also plans to decline the invitation to sit on the "peace council," anonymous sources told Reuters.

The Guardian writes that the French Foreign Ministry justifies this with the panel’s "expanded ambitions."

On Monday, Trump was asked about French President Emmanuel Macron’s alleged refusal:

– Did he say that? Nobody wants him because he’s almost done with the presidency, Trump replied, according to Reuters.

Afterwards, Trump threatened France with a 200 percent tariff on French wine and champagne, according to the news agency.

– Not acceptable

Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg says Norway is opposed to linking customs to political issues, such as a peace council.

"It is not acceptable to use tariffs as a punitive measure. It undermines the whole idea of open free trade," he says.

  1. I’m so sick of this insanity. I took a break from American politics during the Christmas, it was so damn nice I decided to make it permanent.

  2. 2000 percent tariff on psychiatric counseling, and common sense! If the pedo cheeto wont deliver me Greenland NOW WWIII most surely will! Hows that for 4d chess with Uno cards and a Hammer?!

  3. I read that “Russia, Belarus, Slovenia, Thailand and the European Union’s executive arm also were among the latest to receive invitations.” I do not get it , if there is a United Nations already, why do we need this peace console?
