    1. LONDON, Jan 21 (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he would not yield to Donald Trump on his opposition to U.S. demands to acquire Greenland, adding that the U.S. president had reversed his prior support for a Chagos Islands deal to put pressure on Britain.

Starmer: “I will not yield, Britain will not yield, on our principles and values about the future of Greenland under threats of tariffs, and that is my clear position,” Starmer told lawmakers, adding the Danish prime minister would visit London on Thursday.

Starmer said that Trump’s criticism of the Chagos Islands deal with Mauritius was because “he wants me to yield on my position, and I’m not going to do so”.

“President Trump deployed words on Chagos yesterday that were different from his previous words of welcome and support,” Starmer said.

“He deployed those words yesterday for the express purpose of putting pressure on me and Britain in relation to my values and principles on the future of Greenland.”

In response to questions from lawmakers urging Starmer to go further in standing against Trump, Starmer said it was still important to work with the U.S. on issues such as Ukraine.

“That does not mean we agree with the U.S. on everything,” he said. “But it is foolhardy to think that we should rip up our relationship with the U.S., abandon Ukraine and so many other things that are important to our defence, security and intelligence.”

Starmer will yield as Starmer is fucking soft. He’s already preparing himself to yield by stating he still wishes to work with the US.

Edit: Thanks for the downvotes Starmer Fans, but deep down you know he’s not strong enough to stand up against the orange baby.

Good. Sovereignty isn’t a negotiation tactic, and Europe shouldn’t pretend it is.

UK must sell some millions of US treasury bonds as a warning shot to deter US , Since UK holds the second most US treasury bonds in the world 900 billions Dollars only behind Japan .

    5. Make no mistake: Britain has *a lot* to lose if they do.

Who prevents Trump from claiming one of the many British overseas territories as a crucial strategic asset for the US, for example? For “security reasons”, of course…

In the Greenland case, appeasement and backing down is a lot costlier than resistance, especially in the long run. Both Britain and the EU simply can not afford to.

    6. The EU needs to be blunt and start threatening war.

Americans need to have it made clear to them that the utter ruination of their economy is what awaits them.

Invertebrate suggests he may investigate evolving a spine, experts remain doubtful, more at 11.

Edit: *Despite my tag, I am also British, so I am well within my rights to criticise this man for his bowing and scraping to the US. When asked about the legality of the raid on Venezuela, he and his cabinet squirmed and equivocated and said “they wouldn’t comment on the operations of other nations” and that “we will wait for the Americans to present their legal case” instead of calling it out for the blatant breach of international law that it is.*

*And so it went with everything from tariffs last year to the US turning off support for Ukraine, Starmer has always been there to offer the most milquetoast criticism or otherwise support of US misbehaviour.*

    8. It will never happen but it’s high time we closed all American bases and sent the Yankee troops packing. It was often considered a lunatic left-wing view but polling now shows support for this action ‘if’ the USA invaded Greenland.

The US needs to be treated as a hostile nation, because they are acting like one.

Would be nice if Denmark reciprocated with regard to the Falklands – which they’re officially “neutral” on

    10. Trump just said that without him we’d be talking German. As a German I’m confused. What should I be talking? American?

    11. Starmer had better call Mark Rutte, because that boy is licking Trump’s boots like his life depended on it.

The whole Western Europe needs to stop cuddling the US.

Yes the US has a mighty army, but an army always needs allies or it will eventually perish. History has seen it time and time again.

Sure, just like last time when he made a deal with them? I’ll believe it when I see it.

    14. It’s difficult to give trump any regard when it comes to intelligence however I do not believe even he’s stupid enough to provide forewarning on any military action.

Any leaders who believe the words that come out of his mouth while just following the status quo are fools.

He will take what he wants.

    15. This is utterly insane as to how ungrateful and unreasonable you Europeans are. The US literally funds NATO. The US saved Europe in world war 2. We contribute the most to NATO. Legit question, if you all hate us so much, why the hell is the US even a part of NATO? Why are we throwing our tax dollars away on this nonsense?

I think it’s time for a mutual separation.

    16. Yes, the Greenlandic people should not be sold or dominated, and forced to join a state that has no history of ruling or administering them. Especially since they do not want it.

The people of Chagos however, who don’t have any historical links to Mauritius, have never been administered by Mauritius and who have repeatedly said they don’t want to be sold to Mauritius. “Yeah fuck those guys” – Keir Starmer, probably.
