  1. submission statement: General Fusion has officially entered a definitive business combination agreement with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. (SVAC), a move set to make it the world’s first publicly traded “pure-play” fusion company. Expected to close in mid-2026, the deal values the company at approximately $1 billion and provides a $335 million capital infusion to fully fund the **Lawson Machine 26 (LM26)**. Unlike the massive superconducting magnets used in Tokamaks or the high-powered lasers of inertial confinement, General Fusion utilizes a “diesel-engine” inspired **Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF)** approach. This method uses high-pressure pneumatic pistons to collapse a liquid lithium liner around a magnetized plasma, mechanically compressing it to achieve the 100 million degree Celsius temperatures required for net energy production.

  2. Oh goodie, lets get the tech bros involved in something beneficial to humanity just to be sure it gets fucked up and harms everyone instead.

    > World-first achievements in plasma compression, including increased neutron yield exceeding 600 million neutrons per second in one plasma compression shot
    > The plasmas we need with 10-millisecond energy confinement times – the duration required to compress plasma to fusion conditions in LM26

Giant multi-million dollar fusion plant: produces almost enough energy for an ant to take a single step after consuming many gigawatt hours.

    Techbros: “Unlimited free energy”

  4. I’ve been following these guys for a while, since magnetized target fusion seems like an interesting approach, but I haven’t heard anything promising for some time, mostly just restating the targets they already hit years ago.

Have they hit an asymptotic wall? Or are they making incremental improvements?
