what matters in employment rate not the unemployment rate

It’s wonderful how those countries are still being called pigs.

Surprising how high the unemployment rate in northern Europe is. But anyway, very good news for the southern countries. 🙂

Are those South countries generating some much workplace? GDP growth?
Or it is just demographical changes?

Funny how we didn’t come up with a lovely xenophobic acronym for them, huh?

2026 and still with the xenophobia and European separatism; congratulations

As a greek, ‘PIGS’ is accurate.
Also, yeah the rates met but the difference is that it’s on the lowest end for pigs and a the highest end for snifd. So the comparison is somewhat ingenuine.

Sure, unemployment rates have converged, but there’s still huge disparity in labour force participation so *employment* rates are still not similar, except for Portugal.
Employment rate – Q3 2025:
Italy – 67.5%
Spain – 72.3%
Greece – 70.9%
Denmark – 80.0%
Sweden – 81.9%
Norway – 79.4%
Iceland – 87.2%

Portugal and Italy doing most of the work here, and Sweden and Finland in reverse for the nordics

I’m interested in the “bullshit jobs” rate. Maybe we’re measuring this with a wrong approach.

This is because of luteran culture and work ethics. Obviously.
Live-Alternative-435 on
The Nordics don’t have the Catholic work ethic, and that’s why they’re falling behind.
fianthewolf on
Well, that seems strange to me, Spain and Greece are around 11% and I don’t think Ireland, Portugal and Italy can compensate for it because if that were the case, those three would really be the ones who would have been notified.

Nice but I would like to see the % of people in those groups under the poverty line, which I believe is more representative of the state of affairs.Â
Yes, you can have a job, but if it is underpaid and unstable that is still bad.

Wonderful, now let’s see also the tons of shitty jobs that cause that because ppl (especially younger generations) in italy and Greece now are more poor then before and have also more uncertain jobs that can’t grant any possibility to plan a future or create a family
Reality is dire here in italy, don’t belive to raw data: search actively on the net.

Wow, when did northern europeans become so LAZY? Don’t be spoiled guys. If you want to work, you’ll work. Make yourselves more COMPETITIVE. Move back in with your mom and work for 800 euros a month uninsured, like us sourherners. Then 30 years later, the numbers will improve. Don’t you want the numbers to improve?

With all the troubles going on in some of the northern economies like Germany, Finland, France what lots of people in northern Europe deserve is that the “lazy southerners” came up with an equally offensive acronym for them and use it for years on end… but don’t worry, we’re better than that…
Frosty-Section-9013 on
What’s with all the bashing and angry sarcasm? It’s not a competition and we should want all European countries to succeed. I’m happy for Italy and Portugal.
Edit: I’m a swede

Problematic that we in Northern Europe is on the rise, but fuck it, I’m just happy that southern Europe is doing great.
