  1. * Moderna Inc.’s chief executive officer said the company doesn’t plan to invest in new late-stage vaccine trials due to growing opposition to immunizations from US officials.
    * Regulatory delays and lack of support from US health officials are making the potential market size “much smaller”, according to Stéphane Bancel.
    * US officials have narrowed the population eligible for Covid vaccines, created confusion over how to get them and raised questions over their safety under the leadership of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

  2. I know US is big market but the population is not that large compared to the rest of the world.

  3. I reconnected with a old friend who out of no where started sprouting anti vaccine nonsense it took all my will to not yell at him.

  4. Anti vaxxers are among the worst type of people to ever live and I can’t be convinced otherwise.

  5. That’s… sub-optimal. On the other hand, prices will come down immensely, since “research expenses” have been the reason for such high profit margins right?

    Right?

  6. Mixing science and health with capitalism is among the greatest failures of our societies.

  7. Doesn’t make too much sense. Why would a company choose to fall behind their competition? The current admin is only going to be there for 3 years; it’s not great business to willingly put yourself 3 years behind your competitors. Especially at a time when technology is advancing so quickly in that space.

Vaccine company that no longer invests in vaccines has historic bull run in the stock market: Doubling in value in the last 9 weeks.

I think it’s high time that we remove all warning labels from absolutely everything and let the good god Darwin sort this shit out. I’m sick of these fucking people retrenching us back into already-lived-already-old-already-failed ways of life 🙄

  10. China has taken over much of the mRNA research. Many of the main international pharms have invested in new offices and hired people either directly or through purchasing large local pharms. As China is a strong believer in science and invest heavily in innovation. Unlike what is happening on the other side.

  11. Well last time Moderna got government money through operation warpspeed, and guaranteed sales to the federal government – that’s not the case now.

We truly are on some Idiocracy level discourse at this point. Except the president isn’t a cool, silly buff guy with a bald eagle screeching overhead… he’s just a sad, selfish, old “businessman” attempting to dismantle the machine that is the US Govt and its dependent institutions for as much profit for him and his fellows/leash holders in the robber baron class as possible.

Edit: Good thing I dont really expect many MAGA to be scrolling r/futurology. I hopefully won’t have to defend against any of the dumbest, most poorly made points imaginable, which are simultaneously believed as strongly as possible. They usually go for easy targets anyway, and I am certainly not that.

How amazing that the long-term affects of vaccine research after a worldwide pandemic… is going to be less vaccines.

We are a completely insane society

  14. Great, just great. Bring on the new dark ages. We just need now is a super volcano to erupt and another Justinian plague

  15. Don’t worry, plenty of foreign countries will pick up the slack leaving the US pharma industry behind. Things will change once the dementia orange man is out of office.
