Got this on the windshield of my car, but on the website it doesn’t recognize my number plate (italian). Scam? I got it 2 days ago…

It’s my first fine in Zurich and I don’t understand how to pay for it

  1. You should call them because it could just be their system malfuntioning but it it’s real you get in trouble for not paying.

Looks like a scam. Although I believe Zurich has implemented something similar, an officiall letter would surely have some contact information/date/etc. on it.
If in doubt: call them via phone.

    Looks real to me.

Go to the url on the bottom (which is the legit website of the City of Zurich) or use the QR-code to get to it. Enter the Verzeigungs-Nr. printed above, there should be more information how to pay it.

Edit: Sorry, didn’t read that properly. Did you enter your license plate number on the website instead of the number printed on the fine?

  4. They really look like this now – but if the license plate number is not yours – but – as you say – an Italian one – so that car owner just put it on your windscreen in hopes they would not need to pay.

  5. Almost for sure real (the address at the bottom matches), just make sure that also the one in the QR is the same [www.stadt-zuerich.ch](http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch) (followed likely by the number you hidden at the top).

Regarding the plate, usually you have to put it in a special format that is somewhere listed in the page where it is asked. Could be that is something like (I)XX000YY for Italian plates.

I bet you used an Italian hour disc in a blue zone and it was not accepted… That will be 40.-

The domain is the official Zurich city domain, so I guess it is not a scam (I mean the QR code domain, it is the same as the one printed on it and the same as the official stadt-zuerich.ch)

  7. I heard about that some people put their fines on other cars expecting others to pay.
If your are certain that your car was regulatory parked then you might be in this case.

  8. The QR code also leads to the proper website (you didn’t destroy it nowhere near enough 😉 ) so it’s the real thing, not a scam. As your license plate is Italian, try adding ” (I)” or ” (IT)” when entering it into the system. If neither of those works, it’s probably not your fine, if either does, it’s definitely yours.
