    > **This member of the Chinese Communist Party was woken up by burglars who assaulted him before fleeing with his jewellery.**

    > A deputy minister of the Chinese Communist Party’s Ministry of Economy was the victim of a home invasion in Paris on Thursday night, Le Figaro learned from corroborating police sources confirming a report by LCI. At around 4:30 a.m., two hooded men broke into a building on the banks of the Seine, on Avenue du Président Kennedy, in the 16th arrondissement.

    > They climbed up to the sixth floor and entered the victim’s flat through the balcony French window. The Paris public prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation, states that there was no break-in but that “the improper use of a key is considered an aggravating circumstance” in a theft.

    > While ransacking the premises, the burglars made off with ten luxury watches, brooches and diamond jewellery worth several million euros, according to the public prosecutor’s office, which referred the case to the 1st district of the judicial police and notified the anti-crime squad (BRB). Our police sources estimate the loss to be between €6 and €7 million.

    > The victim, awakened by the noise, was assaulted by the criminals, who struck him on the head before fleeingwith the loot through the building’s inner courtyard.

    > The Chinese MP was taken to the Georges Pompidou European Hospital in the 15th arrondissement. He has a 5-centimetre wound on his forehead. The two hooded burglars are currently on the run.

A minister having several million euros worth of luxury items, and that too being a minister of economics.

How/why does a Chinese Communist Party member make enough money to buy one luxury watch let alone ten luxury watches and diamond jewellery worth several million euros?

Chinese person here. Corruption definitely still exists in the Party despite Xi’s mostly performative anti-corruption campaign. Honestly happy that karma got him

He is a deputy to the National People’s Congress, which means he could be an entrepreneur or hold any other kind of job, and is not necessarily a high-ranking government official. Of course, the comment section is once again a classic display of “Chinese bad” mentality. Just think about it: it’s obvious that high-level Chinese officials don’t have that much freedom when visiting France.
