  1. Passenger jet photographed on Expedition 72 to the ISS, over the Aleutian Islands on October 20, 2024 18:26 UTC. Unsure what the flight is but we happened to be overhead!

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. What kind of rig did you use? Do you have a gallery of photos you took somewhere?

First reaction: Not you didn’t you karma farming wh… oh wait it’s Don Pettit, yeah that tracks. Keep being awesome!

  4. I thought getting a shot of an RAF jet from above whilst hiking in the Lake District was impressive.

I suppose if you are going to 1up anyone, the ISS is about as 1up as it gets. Kudos, really cool shot.

  5. Is there any space debris that you see often or a satellite and have you named it like a pet?

  6. It’s so crazy to me that actual astronauts post pictures on here of their experience but it is a social network for the anti-social and nerds.

  7. I love opening Reddit and seeing random, cool posts from an astronaut. Thank you u/astro_pettit !

  8. Cross post to r/aviation they would love something like this. Taking plane spotting to a whole new level. Some one might even be able to identify the flight. ! This is super cool. Also you have a very sweeeeeeeeeeeet job.

You might have gone too fast, but would the plane be noticed following the Earth’s curves the same way it’s noticed from the ground?

  10. I love that I can scroll through my feed and randomly see a photo from orbit posted by an astronaut. Looks awesome.

  11. At first I thought it’s someone taking a photo from the ground and the clouds are super high

    The flight pictured is most likely either UAL3031 HND-ORD N13013 or ACA8 HKG-YVR C-FVLX.

  13. OMG guys, an astronaut just talked to me on the phone and showed me a picture he took from space!!

(Technically correct, which is the best kind of correct)

  14. Come on man, I can photograph planes from down here. Gotta give me more than that to impress me. JK… awesome stuff
