“The discussions represent an early test case for whether Silicon Valley, in Washington’s good graces after years of tensions, can sway how U.S. military and intelligence personnel deploy increasingly powerful AI on the battlefield.”
The Pentagon shouldn’t be doing any domestic surveillance at all, full stop.
Who had ‘the US Military saving us from the looming AI apocalypse’ on their 2026 bingo card?!
Shouldn’t the US military already have this capability? China sure does. Wow.
When the people who fight the states enemy’s are tasked with policing the people, the people very quickly become the states enemies.
This is more of a general statement and more of an indictment on Software adjacent industries/consumer behavior in general – it’s OK to have more than once competitor. Just because today X is better than Y, Z, A does not mean X needs to be able to do everything.
If you look at the history of Software it’s an unbelievably toxic mess of only being one dominant thing whether that one thing is an OS, an Office suite, a search engine, or a social media platform.
That tendency for people to look for “I want the best thing” often results in untailored, one-size-fits all silliness.
I remember 10-15 years ago when everyone HAD to have Intel because AMD wasn’t good enough. Ditto AMD was slightly worse than NVIDIA so… yea. It’s a pernicious behavior in the field. It’s ok “the best” fluctuates over time. You actually want that. The only reason the government is complaining today is because suddenly “Anthropic” is the best.
