Someone was baiting scrub turkeys last year in a park near my place. Local bush care group put up a sign warning of it. Not that far off from Thompson Estate Reserve where I assume this happened.

This has been happening in Sydney a lot, too, lately. Been too scared to let my dogs off the leash when we go walking.

Are there more details than “Brisbane”? Because that’s a huuuuuuge area, and doesn’t give pet owners info on if they should be concerned.
Also, did they have any links to news articles, council statements, police statements?

I usually lean away from being cynical when I see “I found some minced meat in my yard, watch your dogs!”.
And my first thought with this was “secondary poisoning” from rat poison, but I’m not actually sure given the list of animals that died. Would have expected more “kookaburra, crow and magpie” etc not ground foraging birds for eating a poisoned mouse or rat.
Wonder if it’s a contaminated water source somewhere?

Could it be the fire ant poison pellets they’ve been using in public areas?
I’m not in Brisbane but recently saw some justified backlash against it in native animal groups.
This happened over in Perth back in 2023. Some absolutely POS was trying to kill dogs at local parks and beaches.
They would leave dog bait or rat poison pellets in public water troughs and parks across Perth’s southern suburbs. They’d leave bright blue pellets or baits placed near walking paths too for dogs to eat.
Insane. Thankfully it stopped, hopefully they caught the person doing it.

This has happened in mackenzie too… ducks and birds that frequented a pond just all died suddenly

Oh don’t turn this into a Facebook community page. These posts are always bullshit. You’d hear about it from the news before you heard about it from Facebook.

We really should have a law (a better law) that says harming animals for pleasure/sport like this is at the very least 20 yrs jail with 0 parole.
