Saw Hamlet once in school, seen two other plays my whole life. Not really a place ill be attending. But goddamn do i like this building. Happy for part of my taxes to go to cool shit to support art in our city

I dont know why the subtle jab at taxpayers funding this. Some people go to the theatre, some people go to sports stadiums. Some people have kids at schools, some people dont. Some people have to use hospitals lots, others only a little. We all share the cost around, it’s called living in a society.

The demand from the performing arts side is there. Brisbane has always been hard to get into as QPAC is fully booked.
More shows, more art and enjoyment. More patrons. More people spending money on nights out. More performers and crew employed. It all passes along.

I really dislike the tone of this article, has tabloid fingerprints all over it. Used to get a lot better out of the ABC. Maybe a little excitement about a new theatre that looks great would be nice!

What a waste of taxpayer money, seriously if they build a theatre as cheap as possible and just added it… How much did that wavy glass cost extra despite it being a clear unnecessary excess and has no function when flat glass would have done the exact same job or have no glass altogether, save on that cost and just have a concrete wall?

I remember seeing the original architect renders for this which did not show any columns behind the glass, knowing full well that would not be possible. They’ve disguised them quite well but I do think it was slightly disingenuous to omit them from the renders.

The original title is in particularly bad faith by leading readers to assume the taxpayer is having to pay for the theatre and the delays, and then the article buries this line right toward the end “the cost blowout would not be borne by the taxpayer, but by the construction company”. smh

It’s a shame about the delay, but it’ll bring more stage shows, stand up comics and music performers needing a smaller stage than what Bris Convention centre nearby offers.
