      If a peace agreement is reached between Ukraine and Russia, the lifting of sanctions — including sports sanctions — will be one of the conditions included in the deal.

      People don’t hate the FIFA enough. It is clearly a corrupt organization since forever and nothing of good can come out with associating with it.

      People blend the sport for the shitty organization that just happens to be behind events.

      It’s a huge pressure to ban Israel from FIFA so lifting ban for Russia would change the situation for Israel… anyway, Infantino needs to be investigated. It’s obvious he’s corrupted

      Ukraine’s sports and foreign ministers have hit out at FIFA President Gianni Infantino for suggesting that world football’s governing body should allow Russian teams to participate in international competitions after a four-year ban over the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

      In an interview with Sky News published on Monday, Infantino [said](https://news.sky.com/story/fifa-boss-apologises-for-fans-joke-and-insists-trump-deserved-peace-prize-13502326) that FIFA and its European counterpart UEFA should “definitely” consider lifting the ban they imposed on Russian national and club teams in February 2022.

      “Because this ban has not achieved anything, it has just created more frustration and hatred,” Infantino said. “Having girls and boys from Russia being able to play football games in other parts of Europe would help.”

      The FIFA president added that he also opposed calls to impose a similar ban on Israel over its war in Gaza as he believed no country should be excluded “because of the acts of their political leaders”.

      In response, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha [wrote](https://x.com/andrii_sybiha/status/2018385051398832517) on X that “679 Ukrainian girls and boys will never be able to play football — Russia killed them.”

      “And it keeps killing more while moral degenerates suggest lifting bans, despite Russia’s failure to end its war,” Sybiha said. “Future generations will view this as a shame reminiscent of the 1936 Olympics.”

      Ukraine’s Sports Minister Matviy Bidnyi [echoed](https://x.com/bidnyi_matvii/status/2018426648144589199) Syhiba’s remarks, calling Infantino’s words “irresponsible” and “infantile”.

      “War is a crime, not politics,” Bidnyi said. “As long as Russians continue killing Ukrainians and politicising sport, their flag and national symbols have no place among people who respect values such as justice, integrity, and fair play.”

      The Ukrainian Association of Football [said](https://uaf.ua/article/55377) it disagreed with Infantino’s claim that the ban had not achieved anything and called Russia’s exclusion from world football an “effective means of pressure” on Moscow to end the war.

      Allowing Russian teams to return would “jeopardise the safety and integrity” of international competitions, it stressed.

      In 2023, UEFA briefly eased its policy to allow Russian under-17 teams to compete in its tournaments, but reversed the decision after backlash from member federations.

      Infantino’s comments were welcomed in Moscow on Tuesday, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov telling reporters that discussions about reinstating Russia were “long overdue” and that football should “never have been politicised”.

      In 2019, the FIFA president was awarded Russia’s Order of Friendship medal by Vladimir Putin after the country hosted the World Cup the previous year.

      Is he remarking on what the whole of fifa feels about trump putin and Arab countries and partners or is he speaking from a personal perspective if so why doesn’t anyone attempt to get rid of him as representative president of fifa because obviously all his friends deals and remarks are clearly corrupt for the world to see I absolutely love football and looking forward to the World Cup but I think all decent western nations should boycott the World Cup and maybe USA can play a mini World Cup with Russia 🇷🇺 and the rest of the corrupt nations and we start a new world football organization for policies and standards relating to helping legitimate sporting events with the proceeds going back into developing world football for all and not going in corrupt back pockets

      what does war have anything to do with sports? i for one would love to see russian football players compete with the rest of european countries. it’ll actually make the matches more interesting

      The ban doesn’t make sense, never really did, just what they thought they should do because the public were calling for it.
      If you’re a person who thinks the ban is justified, then Israel should absolutely be banned and USA should be more banned than anybody

      * Stop the arsons in Europe
      * Stop the cut of cables
      * Stop the GPS jamming
      * Stop the cyber attacks
      * Stop the assassinations
      * Stop meddling into our politics
      * Stop flying drones on our airports and military facilities
      * Stop financing the far right and the far left in Europe
      * Start denazify your country
      * Start Balkanise your country
      * Start demilitarise your country

      And only then we can start to talk.

      It’s interesting to me how despite their homophobic posturing, and the contest being so heavily LGBT oriented, Eurovision was such a big thing in Russia. Kicking them out of the competition was one thing that actually got under their skin.
