Spotted this at 11:38am over Darling Harbour heading north.

The video clearly shows “12”, but in some of my still photos it looks like “51” because the banner is flipped by the wind.

Looks like some kind of promo flight but I can’t find anything about it. Did anyone else see it or know what it’s for?

I also grabbed a couple of still photos where the banner looks flipped to “51” because of the wind, happy to upload or link them if it helps.

  2. Everton Football Club in the EPL are navy blue, just like the flag. Their number 12 is a goalkeeper called Mark Travers.

Incidentally, their 51 is Kingsford Boakye.

    *shrugs*

  3. Might be a Super Bowl thing? The Seattle Seahawks use the 12 as a signifier for their fans, and it looks to be blue & grey?

Looks like the Seattle Seahawks 12 flag. Local supporter with money to burn ahead of the Super Bowl this weekend perhaps?

  5. Why it would be in Sydney I do not know but potentially NFL Super Bowl related, Seattle Seahawks are playing and they use the 12 to symbolize ‘12th man’ who are the fans

It’s part of a maths question. It was followed by a helicopter with a “-“, which was followed by another one with a “3”.

  7. Definitely a Seattle Seahawks flag. They call the fans the 12 aka 12th man and they’re very popular here.

Ironically I picked them to follow going into this season so I’m very happy they’ve made it all the way to the Super Bowl. In fact I’m currently wearing a shirt of theirs!

If anything they’ll only get bigger here as they’re rumoured to be playing in Melbourne v LA Rams in October. NFL is growing in popularity here.

My wife and I are going to Tasmania next week, and we have a dinner at a fancy restaurant in Hobart booked for the 16th of February. As that so happens to be 12 days away, I think it’s only logical to assume that the banner is the restaurant confirming my booking.

  9. 12 Foot high is 12′ not 12″
Darn kids these days, don’t even know how to write their foots or incheys /s

Today Sydney is brought to you by the number 12

Insert the old Sesame Street song by same name…

  11. Gommage.

Everyone above the age of 12 is going to dissolve into a flurry of petals and scatter with the winds.

Don’t the Seahawks have a punter from the swans academy? 12th man flag they use but surely they didn’t pay for that. Unless it’s a respect thing for him I dunno. Superbowl is hard to watch since we are all getting paid to work while it’s on

  13. Classic muck up week school prank

You get 11 helicopters and number each one 1 through 12 but, skip number 5. So the staff have to round up all those helicopters, but then think that #5 is missing and they have to go hunting for the missing chopper

    Great laughs

If I was a crazy billionaire, I’d pay a helicopter to display a “12” flag one day, then the next day get the skywriter to do an 11, then pay to have 10 fireworks launched at mighnight, then arrange for a skyscraper office building to leave their lights on in the shape of a 9, then have jetboats do figure-8’s in the harbour for an hour,.. and so on. And stop at 2, and see everyone speculate what it all meant.

  15. Holy shit as a Seattle Seahawks fan this is epic let’s fucking go. Seattle Seahawks in the Superbowl next Monday and the fanbase is known as the 12s!
