These guys are actively undermining our democracies. They’d better shut their mouths.

Social networking is a cancer on society no issues with this and perhaps just stopping it all is fine too (unlikely I know)

  4. “Shit … they are taking away our god given right to make money from children’s attention! How very dare they.”

can this be qualified as an interference? He is a CEO but no god. Who gave him right to send unsolicited messages?

In Russia Telegram calls have been completely blocked for almost half a year now.
Over the past couple of months the speed of file transfers, videos, and voice messages has been catastrophically throttled.
At the same time Telegram is the number one messenger in Russia and across the CIS by share of users.

Yet all i see is Durov the so-called fighter for freedom of speech, talking about how unfair France, Romania and Spain are while not saying a single damn word about Russia or the policies of the Russian authorities toward his own messenger. And this is despite the fact that the user share in Russia is incomparable to that of the countries he mentions.

His words would carry some weight or credibility if, in reality, he weren’t just an ordinary hypocrite who defends freedom of speech only where it is safe to do so without consequences for himself or his business.

All i can do is congratulate president Macron on whom he granted French citizenship to.

  7. >This is Durov’s Message

🇪🇸 My message to Telegram users in Spain ❗️

    >

    >Pedro Sánchez’s government is pushing dangerous new regulations that threaten your internet freedoms. Announced just yesterday, these measures could turn Spain into a surveillance state under the guise of “protection.” Here’s why they’re a red flag for free speech and privacy:

    >

    >

    >

    >⚠️ Danger: It sets a precedent for tracking EVERY user’s identity, eroding anonymity and opening doors to mass data collection. What starts with minors could expand to all, stifling open discourse.

    >

    >2. Personal and criminal liability for platform executives: If “illegal, hateful, or harmful” content isn’t removed fast enough, bosses face jail.

    >

    >⚠️ Danger: This will force over-censorship—platforms will delete anything remotely controversial to avoid risks, silencing political dissent, journalism, and everyday opinions. Your voice could be next if it challenges the status quo.

    >

    >3. Criminalizing algorithm amplification: Amplifying “harmful” content via algorithms becomes a crime.

    >

    >⚠️ Danger: Governments will dictate what you see, burying opposing views and creating echo chambers controlled by the state. Free exploration of ideas? Gone—replaced by curated propaganda.

    >

    >4. “Hate and polarization footprint” tracking: Platforms must monitor and report how they “fuel division.”

    >

    >⚠️ Danger: Vague definitions of “hate” could label criticism of the government as divisive, leading to shutdowns or fines. This can be a tool for suppressing opposition.

    >

    >These aren’t safeguards; they’re steps toward total control. We’ve seen this playbook before—governments weaponizing “safety” to censor critics. On Telegram, we prioritize your privacy and freedom: strong encryption, no backdoors, and resistance to overreach.

    >

    >✊ Stay vigilant, Spain. Demand transparency and fight for your rights. Share this widely—before it’s too late.

  8. Ironically enough demonstrating why social media needs to be brought under control. This shady character is not even a Spanish citizen, but has the power to send a message to the phones of millions of Spaniards, and is trying to use his power to influence Spanish politics.

Durovs app is the preferred messaging app for a warring nation,  terrorists and nonce’s.

  10. I simultaneously support both free, publicly available messaging apps with encryption the government can’t break as well as sensible restrictions on social media usage. We don’t have to be ever loyal to tech giants and developers. I like the guy and use telegram daily, but he’s wrong about this.

“The goverment wants to interfere in your communications!” says some rando interfering in my communications.

  12. “Personal and criminal liability for platform executives”

this is the part that is making them shit their pants. they might finally have to face consequences of their actions.

The president’s response was extremely badass. He was also responding to Elon Musk

  14. Candid_Pirate_7952 on

All he’s doing is proving countries are actually not doing enough with these measures.

  15. People on Reddit seriously need to learn how to read actual facts. Durov and Musk are not mad because Spain wants to limit minors’ access to social media. That part is being deliberately misrepresented.

What triggered them is what PM Sánchez added after that the idea that social media CEOs, platform workers, and even chat app operators could be held personally accountable, with changes to laws and policies to enforce it. That’s the real issue and many EU leaders openly supported that approach.

Conveniently revealing how so-called social media platforms have become political megaphones for the rich and powerful…

  17. He can go blab all he wants. So glad Spain is doing this. I hope other European countries follow suit.

  18. Telegram, the epithome of child pornography, Sex and drugs trafficking, adultery, etc… Stfu. The Day EU bans all these shitty companies and we create out own digital social infraestructure will be a great day. Imagine all the drama we’ll miss by not having Americans pesteting us on social media with their BS… One can dream.

  19. Quite a big privacy breach from the CEO to send personal messages to people in a country.

Not also that, but it is to try to influence politically.

Quite a good way to show why regulation is needed.

  20. Losing easy access to young minds that are easily fooled, conditioned or radicalized? Awww… Fucking scum.

  21. You know you’re doing the right thing when the very worst people alive are upset with you.

  22. As soon as I got the message, I deleted my telegram. Do NOT ever invade my inbox with your political message. Do not give a shit what the content is.

  23. Panic is building up ?
So if they can’t manipulate people up to 16 they will lose value… interesting.
    Projection at it’s best

  24. him that still don’t do nothing against the group inside telegram that share photos of children, this is why sanchez and macron are rights and Australia take the right decisions too, minor of 16yo don’t need social
