Yeah they look absolutely massive compared to the old timber poles, especially in the older suburbs where everything else is still low-rise. I’m guessing it’s partly for flood resilience and partly future-proofing with more lines and equipment going up there, but it definitely changes the feel of the street.

Council must compensating for something
They are putting new poles in around Prince, Duke and Emperor Sts too. Yuge and some of them concrete
Probably to enable larger conductor size to allow fit solar input… mind you these are HV conductors
Must’ve got sick of lines being snagged.
There’s a few high voltage feeders through that area as well, maybe they’re upgrading or adding duplicate routes.
110kv to Coorparoo goes via Deshon st, one of the cbd’s 110kv feeders is via vulture st
