  1. I can’t wait until the 2028-29 launch window rolls around and the Mars mission is delayed until 2031.

It looks like they’ll be focusing on the Moon in the near term which i think is pretty nice.

    >Elon Musk’s SpaceX told investors it will prioritize going to the moon first and attempt a trip to Mars at a later time, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing sources.

    >The company will target March 2027 for a lunar landing without astronauts on board, the report added.

Previous internal date was June 2027 for the uncrewed HLS demo AFAIK. They’ve got roughly 1 year to get V3 into operation, catch the ship, hopefully reuse it as well, do the orbital propellant transfer demonstration and send HLS to the Moon. This seems very optimistic to me but assuming everything goes well from the start, i could *maybe* see it happening but most likely it’ll be later into 2027, probably Q2 or Q3.

🛰️ Summary — SpaceX Delays Mars Plans to Focus on the Moon

    • SpaceX is postponing its planned Mars mission that had been expected in 2026 in order to prioritize a lunar mission — specifically an uncrewed landing on the Moon targeted for March 2027.
    • This decision reflects a strategic shift in focus: rather than pushing directly toward Mars in the near term, the company will put more resources into moonbound efforts first.
    • The lunar effort is tied to NASA’s Artemis program — SpaceX is working with NASA to land on the Moon again, and pressure from NASA and competition with other aerospace firms are part of the context for the shift.
    • Elon Musk had previously talked about aiming for an uncrewed Mars mission by end of 2026, but that timeline is now slipping due to this new priority.
    • SpaceX is also increasing investment in space-based technologies, including projects connected to its acquisition of Elon Musk’s AI company xAI, which plays into broader ambitions like space-based AI data centers.

  4. The longer we can go without seeing what a society ruled by Elon Musk is like, the better off humanity is.

  5. So, it’s the 8th anniversary of the Falcon Heavy launch. I watched it with my dad. It was the last thing we ever did together. While we were waiting, he said, “Watch, I’ll bet you a dollar they don’t make it to Mars before 2025, and I’ll bet you another it won’t be until at least 2035.”

Welp, Pop. I owe you a dollar.
