  1. Big Watermelon (and I’m sure other places) still sell Tasmanian cherries. A 2kg box is impressive and fantastic as a CNY gift.

    Or else up market greengrocers will sell boxes of lychees. Be aware though – Australian grown lychees are not quite at the standard of overseas ones yet.

    Quality wise, you can get 2kg premium cherries from Queen Vic Market, the Japanese peach, grapes, rockmelon, watermelon or Japanese/Korean Strawberries I’ve never really seen here before.

    I assume the Asian groceries may do a special run for Chinese New Year, but it’s not easy to find as you would in Asia.

    I think I saw boxes similar to that at Hokkien Market in Burwood (where K-mart is, in the old First Choice liquor site- can’t say for sure they were fruit as I wasn’t looking for fruit at the time. There is another very good Asian grocer further up Blackburn rd.

    Would getting an empty gift box somewhere and picking through for the best fruits at a market also work?
