Precedent was set with META et al last year, requiring facial recognition (short video grab) to be “verified”.
China has had identity harvesting at airport check in for donks. Finger printed the last time I was there!
Orwellian indeed.

The facial recognition is already being used to ban customers from Bunnings if the customer has done something to piss of Bunnings. They keep a list of banned faces. I’ve heard of tradies being unable to enter Bunnings or unable to buy things.

May?
It **will** open the door.

“the entity reasonably believes that the collection, use or disclosure is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious threat to the life, health or safety of any individual, or to public health or safety.”
How can people actually believe that Wesfarmers is so kind and nice that they’re doing this for everyone’s public health and safety and totally not for any profit driven reasons?

Curiously, the government also gave Palantir a security clearance to operate in Australia. Coincidence?

So if I wear the Groucho marx glasses big nose and mustache whenever I shop at Bunnings will they refuse entry or just laugh at me? not that I want to pinch anything ofc.

It’d be fun to run some kind of exploit with a QR code on your shirt

Vote with your wallets and stop giving these cunt companies your money, Bunnings is nothing without people buying their stuff.

Will set up a stall with these next to the sausage sizzle.
I bet I’d go to jail if I started doing this to coppers and politicians’ families so people can refuse to do business, etc. Look at how Albo/Liberal desperately care about foreign agents’ privacy but not Australians with anti-doxxing bills, etc.
Labor/LNP last on a filled ballot for an end to this BS.

Be advised that within Bunnings stores:
* CCTV is in use. Facial recognition technology may be used. Number plate recognition technology may be used and images shared with Police for crime prevention and safety purposes.

A calculator is your new overlord.
This is why supermarkets have almost zero staffed checkouts.
Its why theres no secret shoppers or hardly any left.
Its why they know exactly who is buying what and when, and make you buy something when you dont need to.
You have nothing to worry about because you have nothing to hide. Or so you think.

I’ve been a bit blasé about privacy. I was one of the “Well, if you’ve done nothing wrong, you have no secrets.” brigade.
But I recently heard an example on podcast from the US that has put me right back in my box.
.
1. Nurses over there are mostly on contract.
2. There is an app that hospitals use where nurses can nominate availability for shifts.
3. Happy days.
But here’s the thing…
.
1. ‘Murica’s privacy laws allow the app to see the nurses financial situation
2. Those who have more personal/credit card debt are more likely to be desperate for work.
3. The app uses the financial data to offer them less attractive shifts AT A LOWER RATE OF PAY!
What a load of dystopian bullshit.
Breaks my heart to see the poorest being kept poor with this crap.
So yes kids, learning that little scenario has made me open my eyes.
