I have slowly realized over time that I hardly ever see anything for 50% off. At first, I thought that this might be normal, as I also saw many items for 20% off compared to two years ago. What actually happened that 50% off no longer exists? Will food that is not sold for 40% off now be thrown away without first being discounted to 50% off?

Mainly greed
Yup, 40% basically replaced 50% this year. Apparently they sometimes discount it a little earlier now
At least one of the local stores will freeze unsold meats and mark them 50% off.
Even at 50% it is overpriced imho
Coop has changed its discount strategy. 40% instead of 50% and 20% instead of 25%.
In return, the discounts are available earlier in the day rather than just in the evening, so that more people can benefit from them.

Why do you go to a overpriced luxury store if you want cheap stuff? Go to Aldi or Lidl!
You’re late to the party 😉

Was all over the news
Buy n Aldi and save 30-40% on most stuff anyway
Think of the shareholders, how dare you man!
has been discussed a few times here – yes, they changed 50% to 40% and a bit earlier. And no, not everything gets trown away, there are different organisations and also apps like “Too Good To Go” that use the “leftovers”.
