“Europe’s Busiest Airports” – includes airport in Asia.
Edit: For all the downvoters: Look where SAW airport is located, I’m not talking about IST.

London Heathrow struggles on with only two runways. Hilariously, a third one was first proposed publically back in 2003 and they’re still debating whether they need to build it.

It’s always wild to me to think more than the entire UK population flies through Heathrow every single year.

Very glad not to see my city on that chart. I live in Hamburg: 1.9M inhabitants, 7.7M tourists 2025. Planes are banned from flying over or landing here at night. our airport had 14,8M passengers in 2025 and i am happy its not any larger.

Funny LHR ans IST so close, and MAD and AMS so close.

I remember when IST was the old IST. It had an absolutely blinding lounge, it was easy to get around and to/from. I used to go out of way to stop there. Last year I again intentionally flew to Istanbul. I cannot describe the disappointment.
The walk from one gate to another was such a crazy distance, and immigration took ages.
Food and drink in the airport were extortionately priced.
It is unbelievably far from the city, and there is ***nothing*** near by. We stayed the night in some propped up hotel town, was painful.
And the star alliance lounge, once amazing, is decidedly meh, soulless compared to the previous edition.
I had arranged it so we were stopping there again on the way back, and I did everything I could to change the flight home. I failed. And that was the last time I’ll visit IST.

What amazed me about Frankfurt is that no flights are allowed between 23:00 and 05:00 (I think it was a restriction to limit noise for nearby residents). Really strange for a high traffic international airport.
Also sucks if your flight is delayed and you have to stay overnight and then miss all your connecting flights like we experienced.

Famous ‘London’ airport.
Also Istanbul is on there twice.

Technically SAW airport is on the Asian side of the city, so it shouldn’t count towards Europe.
