A new initiative wants to prevent a "demonization" of alcohol. I’m annoyed by people ignoring scientific facts just because they don’t like the consequences. Of course the alcohol industry will suffer, but so did the asbestos industry.

  1. alcohol is a poison, its strange to expect no consequences and its a bit stupid to now make stink against this initaitve, it will only lead to a streisand effect. prior to this i had no knowledge of this initative.

all that said, i sure hope nothiong legal or such comes from this initiative, otherwise i will be unhappy. we already forbid too much lately.

  2. >Einige Politiker und die Gastrobranche wehren sich gegen die Stigmatisierung von Alkohol

Ah well, then it is settled. Politicians and interested parties such as the people profiting are against the advice of EXPERTS and hundreds of studies. Then let us throw away all the evidence and facts and make it worse for everyone except people making money of it. Let us call this the american-oligarch-pedo way

  3. Hey nai! Aber für Weed giits zwenig wÜsSäSChaFtLicHi grundlage für eh legalisierig! Is muul!!

The crazy thing is that even of if these Lobyists didnt say anything, the Breweries and Wine Maker would have still be able to just sell Drugs that kills you without any problems. But not even that is enough

  5. Do we really need this garbage ingrained in our constitution?

Seriously, the initiatives are out of control.

What even is the purpose of this bs initiative?

    Alcohol is bad for you.
Do they want to make it illegal to say that or what?

Everyone is free to drink alcohol or not. No one is trying to ban that.

    This initiative is 100% pointless.

  7. If this kind of bullshit initiative reaches 100k and goes to voting this will be the sign that we need to increase the threshold for signatures. Sick of having to vote for this kind of useless topics (like cow’s horns)

That’s a poor comparison between asbestos and alcohol. Asbestos can cause harm to the general public without anyone knowing as you cannot see the fibres and then you breath it in and it can cause harm.
Alcohol is only affecting the person consuming it. Avoiding alcohol is a choice and avoidance immediately stops potential harm for the individual. You can argue that drunk people can cause others harm but then we need to also stop selling kitchen knives and cars and hammers as all of these could also be used to cause harm to others.
My point is – as long as it does not cause harm to others everyone should be allowed to do what they want. We are in a free country. This applies to adults only.
What we should regulate is advertisement targeting under 18s, giving the impression you are only cool with alcohol etc. that should be stopped. Otherwise let us live our lifes.

  9. Another example of humans not learning from their own past, prohibition has never worked out and even gave rise to some bigger issues.

I would however very much be on board with a zero tolerance policy for any and all vehicle operators like they do in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Since you can’t force people to drink alcohol and the information about it is pretty easily available, what do they hope to achieve with this? Making sure everyone sees the WHO info in case they missed it?

  11. Do I need to say it? Eating an apple thats a but older would mean you are no longer allowed to drive -_-

  12. 1. Alcohol is bad for you, its bad for the population.

    2. People should be free to drink.

Both can be true at the same time.

As public measures though, and the same should be true for cigarettes, advertisements shouldn’t be allowed.

Personally, i would even legalize most drugs, making an addict AND a criminal helps no one, in fact it only helps the cartels. People should be able to go to a pharmacy and get 2g of clean drugs where it comes from legal growers and producers. not have to go to the trainstation and get who-knows-what where 80% of the money goes into diverse criminal organizations.

But advertising it should be illegal.

  13. In a new installment of politicians of ignoring fact, we have this.

I am disappoint it comes from the Center, I thought they would be better though.

That being said, I think one of the most comprehensive study said they couldn’t detect any change attributed to alcohol drink if the doses was less than half a glass per day (but the issue we don’t know if this is a max per day or if bing drinking is allowed). So yes, a bit of alcohol probably is not deadly, but this bit is far lower than what people are used to drink.

  14. Is anyone surprised? With a winegrower as president? The newspapers in Vaud printed letters of complaint from winegrowers who were barely able to make ends meet, complaining that young people don’t drink enough. I find this glorification of alcohol in Switzerland unbearable – and I tell my neighbours, the winegrowers, this openly to their faces. Everything is trivialised and subordinated to maximum profit – and look what that gets you: see Valais! This farmers’ party with its uneducated and misanthropic agenda is unbearable!

Gaudium Suisse – die Nichtanonymen Alkoholiker?

  15. Alcohol is a social lubricant. Today the young ones don’t drink (enough), which is why all this loneliness and not getting laid stories are increasing…

  16. Astroturfing arrived in Switzerland huh…

    > Astroturfing is the deceptive practice of hiding the sponsors of an orchestrated message or organization to make it appear as though it originates from, and is supported by, unsolicited grassroots participants.
