Jumped over it in the middle of the road on my run, and realised it didn’t fly away. So I picked it up and started walking it to the vet (the first clip). About 10 mins in (the second clip) it sprang to life, and flew away right after the vid ended.
It was so sleepy and placid at the start, and then it just came to its senses all of a sudden. A happy ending but left me quite confused!

May have hit a car or window and been dazed. It takes them a little while to recover from the shock.

Beautiful not bizarre. What a special experience. I’d say it was just in shock from flying into a window or similar, because how you described it’s behaviour sounds just like that.
I don’t mean to be dramatic, but I’d do anything for that kingfisher
I had a baby Kookaburra do this on a country road a couple of years back, it’d probably gotten a bit too close to a car and was stunned. Sat on my hand for a minute or two then he flew off and nearly hit another oncoming car, thankfully missed it.
I’ve never even seen a kingfisher in Sydney beyond kookaburras. That is amazing.

Years ago when I was doing my HSC, I was studying in an outdoor library area. The space was packed with other students nose-deep in their books. All of a sudden, a Kookaburra flew down and landed on my knee. There were about 100 people in that space, and nobody saw it but me. It perched on my knee for about 5 minutes and flew off.
These types of birds have a strange connection with humans sometimes, it seems.
