This is fucked and it all appears to hinge on the cause and nothing to do with the principle.

Specifically on the use of OC spray it is justified for self defence when violent confrontation occurs or is likely to occur. There is footage of a person with a recording selfie stick walking in the same direction in front of police charging towards him from behind and the same officer sprays him at least three separate times. The individual never reacts at all with aggression but is repeatedly sprayed. There is other footage shot from a window looking down at police lines charging at people running away. One officer catches up to a person and pushes them in the back which causes them to fall. That itself is an assault. When that person is rolling over the ground having just fallen two other officers spray him while he is on the ground. Noe of the officers attempt to arrest that bloke so why was he pushed and sprayed to begin with? It is obvious the cops were out of control and I can’t wait for the charges to start coming.

Protesting is being made more and more difficult and I am unsure of the effectiveness anyway.

Why not shift to boycotts and strikes instead? Both of those are impossible for police to interfere with. They can’t come to the house of everyone boycotting and striking and pepper spray them can they ?

  4. I remember when the spray was introduced (late 90s???) it was there as a level only to be used in place of lethal force. Now (probably due to lack of training and nanny state laws) police are being expected to use it to avoid WHS injuries.

  5. They got away with strip searching little girls…now adults want to complain about how out of touch the cops in nsw are ??? Look at Bondi and compare it with people who are`nt doing a thing wrong….in that brief comparison you have your answer…charge the guy with a gun no way…unarmed nonviolent people…attack attack attack !

The ends should NEVER justify the means…

Pretty sure Bligh was more popular when he tried to ban rum in the colony

As someone who only narrowly avoided being pepper sprayed while stuck in a crowd crush, I AM ALSO VERY ALARMED. The police’s actions last Monday were not normal or acceptable.

  8. Minns needs to step down immediately. Can’t believe we’re at the point where a fucking Labor premier is pulling this shit.
