      Nothing. Of course they think that way. It’s way simpler than to admit you helped genocide numerous nations. That’s why the clean Wehrmacht myth exists. And their reasoning is why this myth even existed in the West Germany, the one guy even says it: that if not for them, the USSR would have conquered Europe. Western leaders needed to find allies in a crusade against communism and they found ex Wehrmacht officers, scientists. 

      They’re not different from Russian soldiers believing in cleansing Ukraine, Israeli soldiers believing in cleansing Gaza and even american soldiers, proud of their service in Iraq. They mostly don’t want to admit they were wrong

      They believed the propaganda, same as we’re fed with propaganda all over. Don’t forget there were Germans who felt disgusted with what they did in the war. Throwing all Germans in one bag, especially with those that were born long after the war, is just not right.

      There’s the whole “clean Wehrmacht” myth. Many nazis, especially those with bloody hands, tried to make their atrocities seem small or nonexistent.

      I remember reading Walter Schellenberg’s war memoire, the guy was trying to make himself appear “cleaner” as soon as he suspected the war isn’t progressing in Germany’s favour.

      Families of Rommel and Speer tried to make them appear less implicit. Look at Skorzeny’s or von Braun’s careers after the war – much was swiped under the rug because USSR was a bigger threat.

      Nazism existed for less than 12 years and look at the brainwashing it accomplished justifying murder and genocide as self defence. Now imagine regimes that have had decades…

      I mean obviouslt they’d find any psychological mechanism they could to distance themselves.

      You wouldn’t expect a person to just say “yeah I served a genocidal empire and killed a lot of people”.

      Yea. Same propaganda then as there is today in russia – “the world brought the war to us, we are defending ourselves”. Russians are so incapable of creating anything, even the propaganda is all a copy of some 70 year old bullcrap.

      How about we keep the monsters of the past where they really belong? Namely in the 1940’es.

BTW, there is no country/nation that survived entirety of XX century with its moral compass intact, POLAND/POLES INCLUDED, not to diminish anything, German nazi cunts are human w*ste,but very same thing could be said about the Soviets, Germans were not at all exceptional in their decade of Nazi depravity.

      It was never about history, morality or justice, it’s all about current politics/geopolitcs of europe, which with all its issues remains united, Autocracy/Totalitarian coded countries really can’t stand that, Europe speaking more or less with one common voice.

      Put Germans against the Poles, French against the British, Portuguese/Spanish against anyone north of the Pyrenees, and you have 1940’s once again, in 2020/30’s Europe.

      Every revanchist, irredentist global power will love that kind of europe, continent of irrelevant countries, all of those so full of themselves. Basically 1930’s + post WW2 replay, two (or more) outsider empires carving up europe to serve their interests, while europeans whine about imaginary non-issues

      No wonder they think that. First of all, they were fed propaganda starting from WWI. They were told and believed that they were betrayed. Then they were fed by Nazi propaganda, believed in great Germany, great civilization and enemies outside and within. Someone made them being proud of being German again. They wanted to fight for their country. It is very difficult to realise that everything you believed and sacrificed so much for, was just a lie.

      I don’t blame them for having this view. The whole “the world attacked us” is obviously bullshit, but beyond that nothing they struck me is out of the ordinary for anyone who’s served in any military in any country at any time.

      Nazis to the core. I am more surprised they were not executed. I only know some German soldiers served in prison time shortly after war ended, not sure if these too, it was not mentioned here.

      Obviously. A German WW2 veteran who regrets what he did doesn’t show off the fact that he is a WW2 veteran. And certainly doesn’t go to some commemorative Wehrmacht anniversary events, which this seems to be. Only scum like the ones in the video do.

      It’s like going to a Klan rally, doing an interview and then asking Black people what they think of that. Like duh, fork found in kitchen.

      They are culprit of ww2 and there is no discussion there. Last grandpa was quite right with one thing. Germans stood up to Soviets on the east, if they would collapse before D-Day, Stalin would reach France or even Spain. Soviets had almost 8M soldiers pushing west.
