Cut and paste of their statement

Another weekend.

Another Protest in the city, that means people cannot access Cherry Bar in the City of Melbourne.

The Protests vary but the Pain is consistent.

It has now been well over two long years since Cherry has been able to host our famous Cherry Blues Sunday afternoons showcasing the best local live Blues acts.

Enough is enough.

I just can't understand why our Council and our Government favour the "rights" of illegal protesters (for a large number of varied causes) over the rights of long term small business operators to open their doors and trade, trying desperately to reignite the ailing Melbourne hospitality industry and pay our bloody rent!

Surely after two long years, we can find a better way?

  1. Classic business owner. No matter what they may claim to stand for, money will always matter more than rights

  2. why not a benefit gig?

Get your friends on community radio to host a live broadcast with the spokespersons.

    It worked for Band Aid…

  3. Do people not realise that protesting anything is a democratic right, and we live in a “democracy” do we not… or is it communism because that’s how it’s looking

It was bad enough when this relentless dork was parading himself around media outlets as a “music expert,” I suppose fascist was a logical next step.

  5. Protests do absolutely fucking nothing besides an activity for a bunch of bored narcissists to virtue signaI to each other. I know people who go around asking what protests are on/getting planned like it’s a fucking hobby, not that they actually give a fuck about whatever topic it is that particular week, 98% of them do nothing to help the actual causes beyond being annoying fuckwits in the street.

Before a couple years ago, the Sunday protests were always the cooker/antivax protests. Why does he only have a problem with the last two years?

Surely after the protests people head to bars like cherry? The Cunt wished his friends a happy Australia Day on his personal Facebook page. His bar is a magnet for creeps and is notorious in the industry for not paying bands and audio techs whilst the other owners are off doing coke and travelling Europe. He needs to get a grip. Can’t wait for Amyl to get a load of this lol.

James you’ve been to Meredith. This is dickhead behaviour and Aunty would not be impressed.

  8. Ailing? I went to the city last Saturday night and it was absolutely packed! Sounds like a skill issue to me

  9. So wait, protestors protest on sundays so they can go to work during the week to support themselves but everyone is mad at this guy for saying “hey sundays were important to certain businesses can we not shut down the exact same part of the city every Sunday for two years straight maybe so we can also support ourselves?”

    I think it’s reasonable.

And it also has nothing to do with what the protestors are protesting about and anyone who thinks it does lack reading comprehension.

    It’s about council decisions.

Whatever you think of this guy and cherry bar, it would be pretty depressing if the Sunday nightlife around parliament died out just because of protests, which does in fact seem to be happening.

It seems like today the community is seeing the real side of the man. Quick to latch on and cross promote business when big bands are in town, pleading people to come in for pres or kickons, but actually just money-grabbing for a sinking ship. I guess he didn’t see the writing on the wall with Cream and Westwood. Outstanding fees for bands and sound staff, to the point that bands won’t play there unless paid cash upfront. Regularly sooking about the state of radio play in Australia, or the cities efforts to support the industry post-lockdown.
Absolutely tone deaf to promote Amyl and the Sniffers success, and Tom Morello, then post this drivel.
After the Heartbreaker saga, as if anyone needs anymore reasons to believe Last Chance and the Tote are the best rock and roll bars in Melbourne.

  11. Framing this is the interest of live local talents is kinda galling. That’s not what he is concerned about.

In any case, how exactly do the protests impinge on his ability to host events here?

  12. Isn’t the Cherry Bar on Lt Collins?

How are protests–most of which are quite small and centred around the state library–stopping people from accessing his bar? They don’t march past it and rarely get within a block. Most people can navigate a city block on foot even with a few protesters in the way.

  13. Which protests is he talking about? Are the pro-Hamas protests still on, or something else ? In a free country people are allowed or express their opinion.

  14. Does the guy know how to capitalise on the area he’s in?.. there’s people in the city protesting, when it’s finished, they’d probably love a drink and maybe some blues… could just try and advertise Cherry Bar is open. If it’s a predictable interruption, use and work around it.

Protesting should not, or ever be, stopped.

  15. Cherry bar on little collins? Doesn’t it open late, why would weekend protests ever negatively impact his business?
Sunday protests are usually well over by 2-3pm.

  16. This wasn’t even the original post either. Dick head also lead the protest to save rock n roll venues which obviously disrupted the city. Claims he’s a small business owner, yet owns 3 business, doesn’t work a day in his life and gets on the bags with young women chasing “rock n roll” clout. Tom morello would never go back to that bar if he read this shit. For someone who says they have a law degree, I can’t comprehend how he thinks protesting is illegal when it’s protected by international law, but then again, the amount of coke he does every weekend has probably fried his brain.

Another one of his hot take rants includes thinking that police should do mandatory checks on couples who have reported DV to “avoid it happening again”.

  17. Uh oh, that’s a shot in the foot
Don’t think I’d be interested in going to a blues night hosted by someone who doesn’t enthusiastically support the right to protest, sounds like someone who doesn’t understand where blues comes from

  18. Any recommendations for bars with similar music that aren’t this establishment? I’d prefer after going to a protest, not supporting a business that wants to take away peoples rights.
