They thought they would rake the EU over the coals in Brexit negotiations, score themselves a huge win where all their demands are fulfilled and the EU just gives in to everything. Of course this would have led to other countries also seeking a similar deal for themselves, resulting in the EU slowly disintegrating.
Of course none of this happened since the EU was well aware of both its value as well as the stakes and thus, it played hardball.
I’m amazed of this. When this Brexit thing started I was not very versed in politics and whatnot and it was quite obvious the idea was stupid as fuck. How the hell they managed to fool (over half of?) UK.

In these discussions I’ve seen very few people mention the Cambridge Analytica scandal and its role in Brexit in recent years.
Is it because it was admittedly not the main reason behind it and more of a contributing factor or… nowadays we just take technocracy as a given, maybe?

Gosh, I wonder why someone would want a nuclear power, a former worldwide empire, and founding member of the UN, NATO and very-early member of EU, and the first to declare war in both world wars (Along with France?) to be isolated from the rest of the continent….
When you look at the people behind Brexit, the money they made from it, the fact they have family members who are European with European passports, its easy to see how people were scammed into thinking that Brexit was good for Britain.
Conservatives. Never. Speak. The. Truth. It is *always* double-speak. It’s an entire movement based around *conserving* wealth and power in the hands of monied interests. And they will work to undermine all bonds and fellowships worldwide, and they will *never* work in good faith with their fellow man.
Look at the pictures online, how much money and political power sat around the table with the world’s most notorious child molester and sexual trafficker; discussing how best to steer the future in a worse direction so they can accrue *MORE* wealth and exclusivity. The pedophilia…that was a *dessert cart* to them. An *Ortolan bunting* made of human flesh, if you will.
It’s a worldwide criminal cabal, of the softest palms and thinnest skin. And no matter what they claim about spirituality or theology or politics, the only thing they care about or work toward or serve, is money. The political right is both their sword AND their lance.

Before Brexit, the idea of a Nexit was somewhat popular under some parts of the political spectrum. But after everyone saw how Brexit worked out, only the crazy right wing still wants the Netherlands out of the EU.
Which is still crazy because it would be suicidal to get us out of the EU, much more so than Brexit was.
And yet there’s still people that believes the words from Farage’s mouth.
I remember the cringe we felt when Nigel farage was interviewed on Ireland s rte radio after Brexit and he confidently told us that we’d also leave the EU within 5 years.
The arrogance it takes to go on another countries media and tell them that you know how they are going to feel was jaw dropping then. What we can’t understand is how he hasn’t been politically lynched by now.
One of the biggest scams perpetuated on the British people was Brexit. All of the media was complicit.
It turns out the Brexiteers were the true agents of Project Fear.
They literally chose taxation without representation. They left the EU but promises to abide by its every rule and stricture without being able to influence them.
They want to get in because of the war in Ukraine.
I mean, who wouldn’t follow us considering how well Brexit is going, eh?
Hindsight 20/20 Brexit was good for the EU over the long term. Back in 2016 you had a lot far right parties in Italy, France, the Netherlands etc pushing for an EU exit. People who are now close to the levers of power like Giorgia Meloni or Marine Le Pen were openly advocating for leaving the EU or the €.
If the UK didn’t vote to leave the EU would have signed the new upgraded membership deal with David Cameron, on top of the many exemptions and opt outs they had already. This would have emboldened all the Eurosceptics across Europe, showing them that you can just threaten to leave to extort better conditions. It would have been a shitshow, and Tusk was an absolute retard for agreeing that deal with Cameron.
Instead the UK left, the whole process was a shitshow, they are already regretting it and it killed all the momentum for any political movement that wanted to leave the bloc. Leaving the EU as a policy platform is basically a vote killer everywhere now. I’m happy it was the UK that took the hit because it could have been France or Italy

And Brexit could not have come at a worse time for the UK’s relations with it allies. No sooner than we had left, our ‘Special Relationship’ with Trump’s US started to look ever more misguided. Meanwhile, our EU allies continue to trade amongst themselves within the common market. What a truly dumb idea Brexit was.
