Little bit of a long shot here but what are the chances of finding work as a skilled tree worker in Norway as an American citizen? Does Norway have a labor shortage in this field?

How easy is it to apply for work visa and what do those steps look like if you do not speak the language?

With the harsh weather where I currently live there is typically an off season in the winter unless there are storms is this similar to what you would find with Norwegian tree service companies?

For reference I am an ISA certified arborist with a decade of experience working residential and commercial tree removal and trimming.

Any info is appreciated thanks!

It will probably be very unlikely… If you were from EU/EEA, maybe there would have been a small chance. But US? I highly doubt it.

We have lots of qualified people for this here, so the chanses for you to get a visa and job I would think is very low unfortunately

You may try, but I would not get my hopes up

  2. As long as you can get a visa it’s not impossible. I know several certified arborists, and from what I understand it would certainly help if you knew someone.

Currently I can see [15 available jobs](https://www.finn.no/job/search?q=arborist), but it’s technically considered «unskilled» labour and so it might be hard to use as justification for qualifying for a work visa.

Don’t be discouraged by the naysayers though, we have a lot of trees in need of care, and if you’re willing to work for cheap there’s always work to be had. Winters are cold and dark, so I’m not sure it’s better here than where you’re from. And even though more or less everyone speaks English, learning Norwegian is a requirement.
