I don’t know this specific junction but the problem is… if you don’t stick your nose in and put your front bumper on the back bumper of the next car, someone will come out of the junction and will do it instead of you and you’ll never get in. Any gap will be taken, so people have no choice even if they know what it means.

I thought it was competitive honking.

at this point i seriously doubt lines on the road mean anything after someone has passed the vehicle test. The lines are literally there to keep everyone safe and move in an orderly way.
But hey fuck it, im here and i do what i want right? Whats the worse that can happen, injure or kill someone and get bail?

I once stopped before the yellow grid not to block traffic, as one should. The guy behind me, took it very bad. He got out of his car to fight with me… There was traffic infront of the grid (ofcourse). So this guy basically wanted to fight me for obeying a very basic traffic law and because i stopped 3 meters away from the car infront of me.

Disclaimer: personal opinion only, in which I mean no offense.
I genuinely believe maltese people should not be allowed to drive, without an extensive course (a year or two of actual driving lessons) and at least a year of strict probation.
Of course there are exceptions, but the majority of maltese people are not skilled enough (referring to the basic skill) to be behind a wheel. And believe it or not, the worst drivers are not old people but rather young people.
To be honest, maybe there should be mandatory bi-annual refreshments.
Worst than maltese people, only italians from napoli, and this comes from a person that drove in west africa for quite some time.
