We could have made it conditional on the release of the Epstein Files so we could make a judgement on the leader of the United States capability of making an objective unbiased decision about the action..

But seriously, Trump’s an idiot, noone should be respecting US decisions anymore..

Nah. No one will remember Australia supporting it or consider it when dealing with us in the future.

  3. The entire western world supports these strikes, of course we would too. Not even the Taliban supports Iran lol.

  4. Luck_Beats_Skill on

Even if you accept the view that attacking Iran is wrong. I’m pretty sure making some generic speeches in support is far from the ‘worse thing’

…like we could have actually/akshually assisted or heaped on the praise.

Calling it illegal is about as ignorant as you can get when it comes to the real world.

So we don’t care for the sovereignty of Venezuela or Iran… But we’ve made China an enemy of the West for the hypothetical threat of it invading Taiwan (which is part of China under every international agreement)? Make it make sense.

Iranians (like the Venezuenans) are happy today – the 40,000 dead protesters are not here to celebrate but eh .. yeah.

I guess they mostly don’t want to explain to the Australian public that we won’t be getting our Aukus money back. Or the subs.

But we might get a Trump hotel mystery golf course.

Trump wants this war as a distraction from accusations of rape contained within the Epstein Files. Don’t forget he was found guilty of raping E. Jean Carroll – he has a history of rape and sexual abuse.

In order to make the choice of war even easier, Netanyahu flew to Washington to give Trump a quick reach-around tug in order to stroke his ego – which is the only thing driving Trump.

Dirty Donald needs congressional approval to start a war. He has no such approval. That means he and the drunken Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War, are in deep shit.

  10. albonese’s and penny wong’s foreign policy is essentially lockstep with the liberal party, its disappointing

The Iranian regime under Khamenei was brutal and oppressive. He will not be missed but we dont yet know who or what will replace him. Of considerably more concern is that this is the 2nd time in as many months that Trump has unilaterally removed the leader of another country in an act of agression. He will not stop here because he has suffered zero consequences so far, from his posturing I’d guess Cuba is next. Trump and his cabal of grifters have gone rogue, we are in uncharted territory now with a global super power that no longer abides by any international convention and fears no repercussion. Australia should have no part in this.

Trump needs something to get away from the slipping popularity towards midterms and Epstein files, Israel needed dominance in middle east from inception, Australia need to get busy on anything else but cost of living or taxing the oil man – instant best buds.

  13. No shit, it doesn’t take any expertise in international law that destabilising a foreign country is bad but our Australian politicians just love to bend over backwards for the Americans and promote American neocon policies for some reason.

How did regime change go in Iraq, Libya, Syria?

  14. We should just stay the fuck away from all these conflicts. We are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. It’s not our problem. None of this is going to end well.

I had a lot of respect for Penny Wong when she was in opposition, she seemed like someone who had a strong sense of integrity and character that seemed to be missing in the wider political realm. It’s pretty disappointing to see this sort of capitulation regarding the Middle East and USA/Israel in the last several months

Who cares. Iran’s leadership are murderous, terrorism-supporting tyrants who don’t DGAF about international law and commit war crimes and terrorist acts with indifference (including in our own country) – yet strike against them and people start calling out the “legality”. Fuck ‘em.

  17. This thread makes me realise why most posts around these 2 regions have their comments locked. The amount of obvious foreign bots with dodgy histories flooding this website will make it irrelevant in a few years. 90% of the wider internet and people in real life already mock people who use this site religiously.

  18. Based on how Trump works, Australia should say “Do us a favour first, and give us one Virginia class submarine”.

  19. Absolutely not the time to be sticking our heads up.

Iran is lashing out. Pakistan apparently declared a state of war with Afghanistan. Everyone is walking on eggshells trying to second guess what the fallout will be, and Trump seems oblivious to what he has done.

The secondary economic damage alone has potential to be severe, even if EVERYONE takes three steps back and calms the fuck down.

Australia would be best served paying a whole lot of attention to local matters for a little bit. Let the world calm down.

  20. Yes it’s a distraction from Epstein and Trumps declining popularity… but don’t cry too hard for the IRGC
