  1. There’s a lot of ‘shoulds’ in that article. Game theory and personal incentives always win

Did my normal fortnightly fill up today and was a lot of jerrycans out.

Partner and I already intend to alternate who drives the EV based on most driving in that day if needed and I’ll ride the motorbike if prices jump significantly.

Already at tank tops but, to be fair, oil has only jumped a little over $10/bbl. It isn’t a huge price increase.

  5. Politician with a taxpayer-funded car tells others to not panic about the cost of petrol.

  6. Building a huge chunk of the transport infrastructure, or building personal budgets, around a form of transport reliant on one of the most notoriously price-volatile and price-shock sensitive commodities in the world was never a good idea. Imagine if you had to swipe your credit card to open the doors to the tram or train every morning and the price was based off ASX points or phosphorus futures. One more reason for public transport investment.

If toilet paper and COVID taught us anything, it’s that Aussies remain rational and level-headed when supply is under threat and will definitely, definitely heed this kind of urging…

  8. Why not? The wholesalers, distributors, and retailers won’t waste any time “reacting to market forces”.

you will not save much by filling up now. Your tank will last 1-2 weeks then you have to buy again at whatever price.

If only our petrol reserve wasn’t in the United States. Fantastic. Great move. Well done Angus!

Tell people that half the world’s toilet paper passes through the Strait of Hormuz, then lean back and watch the chaos.

  13. Hmmm. I guess we are fucked then. Oh well. Let’s spend even more money. Let’s have an even bigger COL crisis…as if it isn’t already bad enough as it is.

I always remember that old Jewish adage: Things can always get worse.

And it looks like they will indeed.

I need to drive to Sydney and back in the middle of this month. Somehow that orange chode of human has directly fucked me despite me trying my best efforts to ignore him and the US

  15. If you think we’re farked for petrol, how do you think the emirates are feeling about every other item other than oil that they have to import?!

When Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and UAE run out of coffee and chocolate, the US will be kicked out and Iran will have won the war.
